I'm 54 ... and have only recently encountered the elegant creaturely/symbolic model of the human situation. ( The denial of death by Ernest Becker ).
This book has backed up hunches I had about 'being' as a human in human society.
The title of the post alludes to the idea from "Brave new world" where Huxley refers to Ford as being the harbinger (?) of the new world ... the production line .
I am mooting that he may have chosen the wrong guy.
Our age I am suggesting is much more the age of Freud , who made lots of mistakes and was a crazy ego driven dude ( analysis of Freud's frailties in Beckers book forgive him for being human .)
He is kind of like a Moses figure , a Newton , a Darwin .
Life just trundles on ... Well he was a Christ figure actually ( how he would spin in his grave !) ... and this is the nub.
We are in the age of Freud , without knowing it .
Did the people in 125AD encounter much Christian theology ?
Thats my point.
All my life Freudian ideas have been mocked and ridiculed .
By people who don't understand it .
For a 'scientific' objective view of human experience that discounts all mystical and divine possibilities , Freud kicked the ball off.
I know there is a lot of love for mysticism ... and I appreciate that .
The point is that the Freudian Objective animal view of man is a level playing field that can liberate all humans from their cultural chains .
It is not a personally reassuring world view , but globally ... until other phenomena currently beyond science are discovered/accepted ... it is the best we have got .
