I like the system like it is. Never change a winning team. Imo, it's as simple as that.

Users should learn how to sort better, by their preferences, e.g. . So it is even educational, like it is, which always gets my vote.

I can see no point in downvoting the chief clown ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Trump ) after he has been elected.

PLUS: Downvoting incites negative emotions which is probably mostly not a beautiful thing to have. I don't want to see saidit to be divided by a caste-encouraging system. This is just bs.

How about no, that's not how real life works. I'm tired of everybody and their stupid demands for echo chambers and trying to get rid of things you don't like. One of the better sites for conversation has NO voting WHATSOEVER and they have done just fine for over a decade, while sites with voting such as Reddit have massive amounts of stupid in-fighting that push large numbers of people off-site.

By the way a king clown sits in the governor's chair in my state and we cannot seem to get rid of him and have to constantly look at his stupid face almost every day, so cry more. If you want to erase things you don't like, why don't you start by doing so IRL.

Hey sandman: blow it out your ass. (That's sort of like a downvote, eh?)

Why should you blow it out your ass? Mainly because having no downvote prevents brigading, one of the worst things about reddit. If you stay on saidit for a while, you will probably understand why "no downvote" is quite a good idea.

Downvoting has always consistently been abused. Of course, so is upvoting. The difference is that, at the very least, critics will not be so harshly punished and punished with bad posting times to boot. That social stigma is also somewhat removed. Of course with these benefits, you've already noted the cost. The counter to this, I believe, would be allowing users to block those whose opinions are beyond ridiculous to them. Other than replying and pointing out just how ridiculous their opinions appear to be.

Think of it this way: If the only way to criticize somebody is to actually criticize them, isn't that better for everyone overall? Those who do not wish to waste time in criticism can simply eliminate those whose opinions they would never accept anyway, thus also removing any impetus for people to game the system to begin with. People who want a conversation can have one, and people who cry like petulant children or attempt to troll can more easily be ignored. I think this is the best of all worlds.

You are free to respond to the king clown and convince all the bystanders why he sucks, and the groups of clowns can do fuck all about it. Unlike on sites where they can mob up and downvote you so noone will see your post, on top of all those penalties you get from not having enough karma. You see some "stupidity", respond to it and explain why it's stupid. Even if the other side is participating in bad faith, there are still other people who you can help enlighten.

A simpler solution would simply be calling out what's going on. Seems more effective any amount of downvotes.

Great point. I can't count the number of times I've been downvoted on Reddit without ever getting a reply. If people say something that's false or rude, how they are supposed to learn? If people are correct, it allows dogmatic people to punish a person for thinking differently without ever having to justify their views themselves.

The clowns such as yourself just get bored that they can't control the conversation and leave. It's a self correcting system.

I imagine this is true. I thoroughly enjoy discussion vs down voting

Have you ever tried reddit? I think you may like it better than Saidit.

An alternative could be to print the following custom made buttons. Cut them (carefully) and stick them to the screen. The user can then press these buttons, delivering the Reddit experience without Reddit and without turning Saidit in to Reddit.

Your criticisms don’t matter. In they end they will enable some form of downvote for the site to work because it makes logical sense. Downvotes don’t have to go into negatives. Just enough to trim down too many group think upvotes.

There is no reason to be on 100 upvotes as an example - when more than 90 percent of People disagree with you.
