This is not free speech in the strictest sense, every forum or site you use uses some form of censorship through rules/moderation. Though I'd say that Saidit has probably found a decent balance between the two in comparison to other sites. You can pretty much say whatever you want here so as long as you literally aren't shouting nigger over and over again. It's never as black and white as people make it out to be when it comes to freedom of speech and forums, because at some point you're going to get assholes that will use this freedom to stir the pot and just generally be nasty people. Some will use it to post all sorts of disgusting, inhumane shit.

You also have to take into account the server provider as most of them aren't as tolerant, they pretty much have you on strings if they threaten to close the site down as there aren't any better alternatives. The only way to ensure that this doesn't happen is to find a very dedicated member that's willing to run the site on their own servers. Which will cost money and time and will generally just be a mind fuck to get done.

[–]wristaction 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

It's a small community and the ADL doesn't recognize its existence, so it's left to self-regulate.

The actual principle involved is just people's ordinary understanding of what speech and speech freedom means. You only get into casuistic pilpul about which speech is not speech or which speech is "harmful" when the Stalinists cast their gaze on a platform. You see Socks try to do it upthread, but no one can take him seriously. That sort of thing would have to come from outside from a group which has leverage.

As it is, it doesn't seem as if that threat is present or even approaching here and the community here is surprisingly heterodox.

[–]Jesus-Christ 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

True, but we've already had an experience where the provider buckled under one person repeatedly reporting IP2 for "harmful" content and they threatened to take the entire site down. Which forced Mag to remove the sub entirely for the sake of the site. So I can definitely see something like that happening if a group of losers with nothing better to do try to target us. Or as you say an outsider group with leverage.

[–]Whonose 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

They'll be here soon enough. The shoes ruin everything.

[–]SaidOverRed 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

Uh... Can you point to an instance in the moderation logs? Cuz I don't want to test that and it's hard to weed out the spam from just points others find offensive.

To be clear, I'm looking for a well-reasoned, on-topic post that stoops to the extreme levels of vulgarity you mentioned. Thus it wouldn't be removed for being low on the tier of debate but would be removed for just plain being vulgar.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Good luck with that. M7 is intentionally/stubbornly vague about it.

[–]SaidOverRed 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Well I tried. I know everyone mocks the "I know it when I see it" line of reasoning, but I was trying to be 1) open-minded and 2) useful in providing a litmus test. There are advantages in being vague (as well as obvious potential for abuse). Maybe someone with more interest in the topic will perform the test and get back to us.

[–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yes, there are pros and cons to openness, bureaucracy, and vagueness. There's no excuse for abuses. For example, if you're curious and missed it, M7 censored my Monday post as was covered in this discussion.

[–]andersonmorbeckv 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

limitting porn is not the same as limitting free speech

[–]neovulcan[S] 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Well, from an ethical perspective there are positive rights and negative rights. Positive rights are freedoms while negative rights require effort to maintain. Taking the effort to limit what I consider harmless content implies that considerable measures are in place to keep the site free of certain content, which is indeed the case.

[–]poopdawg15 9 insightful - 7 fun9 insightful - 6 fun10 insightful - 7 fun -  (11 children)

Racist antisemite here, I must say the milieu here at Saidit prevents me from posting a lot of my most potent stuff on both blacks and jews. It just doesn't seem it would fit well into the mix.

[–][deleted] 10 insightful - 3 fun10 insightful - 2 fun11 insightful - 3 fun -  (6 children)

Come on. I'm an actual National Socialist, and I've posted how the Jews are unimaginably destructive, subhuman parasites, hundreds of times, along with video documentation. It's good here. Don't be a snow flake. Sieg Heil!

[–]jykylsin2034 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

I've dabbled a bit with that here bit people don't seem to take with it well, also I had a post about America's future in relation to fascism removed by m7

A zero porn policy is pragmatic to remove all doubts of child porn and anything sneaky (ie. 13 year olds who look 28).

[–][deleted] 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (8 children)

Plus, there are places for porn. Each has his own taste can go where he will meet the kind of porn he likes.

Personally I abhor porn or anything with visual sexual connotation. It is temptation.

Endless places. Is it the have your cake and eat it too of the coomer world to put the forum and jerk off materials in the same place? That seems like shitting where you're eating to me, but maybe I'm just closed minded.

[–]Airbus320 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

No comatoast you are not closed minded at all. Don't let the coomers gaslight you. They are sick people

Yes obviously, I didn't think it needed stating, but I appreciate that you did.

I don't mind the temptation, but I certainly don't need it here.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 1 insightful - 3 fun1 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 3 fun -  (11 children)

13 year olds who look 28

Wait... What?!

[–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (10 children)

It can happen. There were certainly some in my highschool back in the day, though maybe not 28. Ironically in most porn they're trying to look 18 again, or younger. A minefield of traps regardless.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (9 children)

Porn titles lie so much about the ages, like they say "college" but you get a 30yr old stripper covered in tats. I thought she was going to be enrolled in college, not just visiting to bang the frat guys.

Why do you think it's ironic the older ones are trying to look 18, that's pretty much peak physical age for a human physically. Just, who they think they're fooling I don't know. It's possible to look older, can't really fake not being old.

It can happen

Not usually in professional porn because they're regulated and don't want to go to jail, but ... As soon as teenage girls get tits they want to show them off. Had to yell at my niece and her friend over that shit. And I never imagined ever telling anyone to stop taking a downblouse pic.

I mean, just look (or don't) at TikTok. There's some questionable content.

Although also, s/Tits are not porn in of themselves. I'd like to think I have some authority on that, since I run the largest Saidit community dedicated to boobs and birds. 🧐

[–]JasonCarswell 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (8 children)

Ironically juxtaposed, the older want to be younger and the underage want to be older.

I wasn't suggesting it would happen too much in pro porn. I was just saying kids can sometimes look older. And CIA or Mossad would pull low down shit like this to take down SaidIt if they could, maybe even make it look like "pro porn" too, whatever that means.

IMO wearing make up, drinking, driving, voting, soldiering, sex, etc should all be 18.

Yes, you're a boob, man.
Yes, you're a boob man.

[–][deleted] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

IMO wearing make up, drinking, driving, voting, soldiering, sex, etc should all be 18.

Sheltering kids and then expecting them to figure it all out at 18 I am not sure produces functional people.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

Absolutely correct. For whatever reasons/excuses/external forces, most parents don't parent anymore though. So...

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

When I was growing up we were usually expected to go outside an entertain ourselves until dinner. I've helped raise a couple kids now and I feel like I spent a lot more time with them since now children stay indoors a lot more.

That is all there is to parenting, you try to guide them and they don't listen and have to learn the hard way like you did yourself at that age, and one of the best ways to teach them is by example.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

PragerU is owned by jews as well. Just another way for these tricksters to control the narrative. It's all so tiresome.

[–]Comatoast 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (8 children)

As far as I know, the site admin has rules that are set up with regards to the separate set of rules via the server host. Outside of the general rules list, and posting/reporting criterium for each sub, that's generally what is gone by.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (7 children)

I learned a new word today.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/criterium

Definition of criterium : a bicycle race of a specified number of laps on a closed course over public roads closed to normal traffic.
Examples of criterium in a Sentence Recent Examples on the Web
The Olympic silver medalist was also fourth in the road race and sixth in the criterium.

Although, this is probably the first and last time I use it.

Edit: /s/Comatoast must have a next-level spell check dictionary.

[–]bobbobbybob 3 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 4 fun -  (0 children)

fuck that's funny. I thought maybe criterium was the singlular of criteria, but, til.

[–]Comatoast 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (4 children)

I'm just dumb. I honest to god thought that was the word form that I was looking for, oops.

[–]Tom_Bombadil 3 insightful - 4 fun3 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Not at all.

It's awesome.

I'm trying to think of a way to shoehorn this incredibly specific word into a future conversation.

I've thrown down the gauntlet.
A try-hard-by-fire quest.

I'm probably going to burn myself.

Thanks for this - though some notes on PragerU:

Some of their videos are not suitable for kids because of the misinformation and disinformation in that group of videos. (One can post misinformation and disinformation on Saidit.)

The problem with the restricted videos is not the sexual or violent content, but because of misinformation and disinformation.

There has been political content in many of the restricted videos. The lawyer's claim that this isn't true is false.

This is the lawyer's way of developing an argument. It is an argument; it's rhetorical, not devoted to facts.

PragerU is definitely NOT "as mainstreet as you can get". It's not even center-right. It's fully right-wing. There is nothing centrist about PragerU, though they naturally want viewers to think there is, as a way of getting them to agree with the most of the video, while not realizing they're also - in the process - starting to think in terms of the extreme right-wing disinformation that is subversively threaded into the video.

The Decency Act of 1996 took the place of important FCC regulations (Fairness Doctrine) that previously prohibited propaganda in FCC regulated news media. Since 1996 - news and edutainment media companies like PragerU and Fox have had the right to distribute propaganda, misinformation and disinformation, without legal recourse. They're been allowed to lie to people, and lie about people, claiming that thier own opinions are facts (which they're not). This is abusive and subversive.

Fuck PragerU. They are right-wing influencers of the worst kind, because they are able to distribute disinformation in a manner that looks like normal documentaries. [edit: corrected spelling]

    [–]RightousBob 8 insightful - 6 fun8 insightful - 5 fun9 insightful - 6 fun -  (36 children)

So you don't have a problem with "misinformation/disinformation" or blatant state sponsored propaganda coming from mainstream media outlets? This is yet another reason why you come off as a shill. Because you are so one sided. Look up the Smith Mundt Act and then tell us all about the horrors of "Mis and Disinformation."

    [–]Node 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (20 children)

    PragerU is ... fully right-wing.

Socks is so far to the left that he sees anyone who isn't a foaming-at-the-mouth rabid communist as right wing. It's bizarre. They tried to characterize Trump as right wing too... How do you even talk to someone so deluded.

I've seen Trump legitimately characterized in a number of ways on both Fox news and CNN. He is a sock puppet, a moldable poop, like a poop-play-doh human. Obama felt similar, he was like a Muslim/Christian/Jew, all depending on the day and the pulpit.

    [–]wristaction 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

The actual point of fact being that he was as disinterested in religion as anyone else. That was the real substance underlying the scandal with Rev. Wright. Obama only attended services there because he was, at the time, running against an actual Black Panther who he recognized he was too white-presenting to compete with. I totally believe that he didn't recognize the quotes from the sermons. He was only putting in his time there and he'd heard worse from his white and jewish colleagues in academia.

This is yet another reason why you come off as a shill.

    Read the post, Bob.

Because you are so one sided.

Do you understand nothing about what I wrote? My concern is with misinformation and disinformation, obviously. And my concern is with right-wing misinformation and disinformation. This is not unusual. You don't have to be a shill to say such things. If you don't agree, note what you don't agree with. Your attempt to understand me isn't important here. Address the issues in the thread.

Look up the Smith Mundt Act and then tell us all about the horrors of "Mis and Disinformation."

If you have something to say about the Act, or about anything of substance, say it. If you're only interested in judging people, go fuck yourself.

PragerU is a jew propaganda outlet

    Interesting.

Having read about the founders just now, I see that they're Jewish, though it's apparent that their main target audience is conservative Christians, among others I think they try to pull from the 'center' to the r'ight'. They made $18.6 million in 2018 as a "non-profit" and spent $13 million of that, perhaps much of it on their 44 employees. Seems they're not really non-profit. [edit: spelling correction]

PragerU is definitely NOT "as mainstreet as you can get". It's not even center-right. It's fully right-wing.

Fucking lol! Socks, you're too much.

Some of their videos are not suitable for kids because of the misinformation and disinformation in that group of videos.

Can someone create a bot that chimes in whenever socks-bot brings up his "misinformation and disinformation" trope against whatever group he's being paid to oppose.

    Something like:

socks-is-a-shill bot PSA: socks is a purveyor of low-budget misinformation and "disinforamtion".

As usual - Tom - nothing new or relevant from you.

If you've got something to contribute, don't be so shy.

You know the old saying?: It's better for people to think you're an idiot, than to speak and prove your idiot.

In your case, don't worry about it: just try to offer an argument. Any argument.

I've never heard that. Is this more of your clever "disinforamtion"?

I've heard this quote from Mark Twain:

It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.

Once again, you're the joke that writes itself. Keep 'em coming.

    misinformation and disinformation.

Can you please link me to a couple? I haven't watched even half of the videos but none of the ones I've seen came remotely close to misinformation or disinformation.

Yes - the banned videos are easy to see here:

    https://www.prageru.com/playlist/restricted-by-youtube/

I am not sure which two of those videos I'd select first. All of them are pushing an extreme right-wing agenda with misinformation or disinformation.

    For example:

"The Inconvenient Truth About the Democratic Party"

    or

    "Playing the Black Card"

These are often defended as opinion, but they are also presented as fact. They're subversive, to put it politely, and unfounded propaganda, to put it another way, and meant to influence people into think voting for right-wing candidates, and to go to church, and to think contemporary democrats are racists, and often to anger people about the 'other'. They're not based on facts.
