It just comes down to the limited user base, and why they are here. There just isn't enough people to start subs and answer questions about innocuous things.

People are here that got banned from Reddit because you can talk about trannies, niggers, and zionists freely. Nothing else really matters here. I started a golf sub and it went nowhere, I'm not complaining, but it is what it is.

The majority of people here don't go outside much, you can see that easily, and I'm not knocking anyone, it just is.

So that leaves forbidden topics, anime, crypto, computers, and online only heavy discussions to be prevalent here.

I've notice the 'gross' discussions are all that's allowed and weird stuff. It goes back to what I said the internet is either ultra left authoritarian or quack only now leaving no room for normal topics to dig deeper.

The problem is he's looking for a "Reddit alternative", not a community.

Maybe it's just better to go back to Reddit and accept the things you don't like about them or don't express your opinion on things that may get you banned. Then you can continue to be in the ingroup

Personally, I like Gab better. These sites are destined to become lefty shit holes and overrun with bots.

I come here to break up my activities but I agree responses are not great.

I didn't think I'd get any response out of this as my other threads failed.

Gab is much more active but I believe they do censor (shadow banning apparently).

saidit is not completely censorship-free either, though maybe it's better at least? https://saidit.net/s/SaidIt/wiki/bannedfromreddit#wiki_banned_from_reddit_and_saidit

does any place not censor?

Site owner magnora7 is quite censorious and will make up new rule violations if he doesn't like your content, though it has been much better lately since he has not been on in several months. Spam, porn, and advocating violence are the only things I've seen acted on lately by the current mods, which is pretty reasonable compared to other options of sites like this

I agree with those points. Who want a site filled with that but then again since the 70s drug generation it's all gone downhill so without those things you lose a majority of population that have a sick twisted mind (which to them is normal)

[–]panel30 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (15 children)

did something happen?

I think he does not like the community this site attracted. He apparently spends his time on Reddit now, as other users see him there regularly still. He now forgets to pay the hosting and TLS fees, and the site goes down every few months for a few hours while the admins contact him to make the payment

[–]panel30 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (13 children)

Hm. Has reddit changed to be more to his liking since he made this place?

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (6 children)

I really don't know. He used to censor a bunch of the racial stuff, and he would also censor any comedic or satirical posts that were even remotely sexual. He seemed very easily offended, and I have no idea why he would start a site like this given my interactions with him. There are other users that have been here longer that know him better than I do that might be able to answer this better

I used to read sometimes around the time of the george floyd riots. From what I remember he and d3rr seemed onboard with that agenda, so maybe they are happy with the changes various more mainstream places have implemented now?

Why was he banned from reddit originally, that's why he started this place right? He probably posted about it somewhere on here. ... found some old posts re this: 1 2 3

Well it seems he censors some. If I really want to understand why I'd have to do more digging.

d3rr got frustrated with magnoras management and quit as the site admin. d3rr is actually still around and using the site under a different username, though I am not sure he wants me to identify him. He has not been on board with the arbitrary censorship. As far as Magnora, I really don't know much about his personal business, just observations of his management

I'll give you a few examples of his shadowbans.

He shadowbanned debateAltright

He shadowbanned s/boobs for having pictures of clothed women with nice boobs (and birds like the blue-footed boobie), despite not breaking any of the sites rules

he shadowbanned another users s/I'dFuckHer sub where he posted clothed women he found attractive, which also clearly wasn't in violation of any of the sites rules

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I am not a fan of boobs I think it's stupid at best that women think they are being somehow 'funny' and 'expressive' when they try to show them. To me it shows how they feel inwardly which is they feel they always have to 'prove a point' and can't just accept being what they are so they have to 'please' the sexual crowd.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

I wasn't trying to make a statement about whether or not the boobs sub is good, my point was that there wasn't anything in the rules against it, but magnora banned it anyway, and did not even bother to update or clarify the rules, and that this is no way to manage a site

[–]panel30 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Interesting. Is there someplace cases like these are recorded?

debatealtright is visible now, he must have un-shadow-banned it at some point later? what happened?

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Sort of. This is a list of the subs that don't show up on s/all (our shadowbanning)

https://saidit.net/subs/notall/

Now some of these subs are self-quarantined because they are meant to be private. Others such as s/incels had a moderator that refused to follow the site rules (they banned people for non-rule violations) and so were removed from all. Magnora also would put subs he didn't like on this list without notifying anyone.

debatealtright is visible now, he must have un-shadow-banned it at some point later? what happened?

Yeah, it started showing up again maybe two months ago, after many months of being being removed from s/all. I'd be surprised if it was magnora that unhid them, as he hasn't been around when it came back up. I am not one of the regulars in that sub, so I don't know the details. send_nasty_stuff (the sub admin) or one of the regulars there would be able to tell you more about it. Or maybe Zapped, as he is the most active of the current site admins

You should notice, on the other hand, that he mostly gives you a lot of leeway otherwise, even though anybody even "half-way"-sane knows, that 90% of your posts are as unappealing, as yellow-press itself is.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Magnora? No he doesn't, he just hasn't been here in 6 months

discussions has never censored but they will probably be closing soon

    [–]panel30 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

well that's good to hear, finally someplace that doesn't! but too bad if they are closing.

Bing. You can't trust anything that isn't on print anymor.

Even before my (long overdue) departure from reddit several years back, I had considered developing a censorship-free reddit-style link aggregator/discussion forum that would be heavily privacy-focused for users (unlike, ahem...certain sites that are Cloudflared or rely on advertising like Google Analytics). But because I wouldn't allow advertising or cross-site scripting (and really would prefer to use no javascript at all), the site would need to rely on donations to pay for hosting, unless some sort of blockchain token was employed that users could purchase to help pay for hosting and reward other users for content. And therein lies the problem - I am extremely idealistic when it comes to user privacy, and would not want folks to pay for said tokens using traditional means that could allow for tracking. The only real alternative is to only accept anonymous payments in Monero, but that would of course severely limit the user base.

Another reason it's never materialized is that I'm just one guy who trusts literally no one. While automod bots can help, they're not anywhere near foolproof, and I don't see how I could possibly find a mod crew that I wasn't constantly suspicious of, considering the overall theme of said forum(s) would be conspiracy-based, and likely would attract a whole range of undesireables. I've run into this problem before (many years ago) running forums that dealt with highly controversial topics, and it sucks when you find out one of your crew glows.

I'd consider it if someone of means were to completely fund it, including covering the cost of my time for development and server administration + a bit of pay for a small mod crew, but I don't really see that happening. I've thought about reaching out to some folks in politics, but I'd trust them even less than some anon who says he agrees with my priciples. Bottom line is that simply being the founder and admin of such a highly controversial site would put a big target on ones back, and while I'm a truth-seeker, I'm not a stupid one with a death wish.

In the meantime, I just work on other stuff that, while being focused on security and privacy, doesn't deal with user-generated content that could get me or a crew in tons of hot water. I'm paranoid enough as it is, but hats off to others who have the balls to do it.

Why would you post this in AskSaidit but not actually ask a question? Seems like a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Reddit is the big monopoly not twitter! If anybody should be broken up by Anttirust it should be Reddit followed by Ten Cent.

Each website has a birth date and death date. Even the best of them come and go. Before Reddit was Digg, the same sort of website. Reddit was a Digg alternative.

There are a lot of alt social media sites now aren't there? Saidit is far from the only one? There are a lot of options and technologies now aren't there? s/saiditalternatives s/decentralizeallthings

Building any site or community just takes some building, right?
