Could have a pretty simple answer. He registered Republican to vote in primaries, as instructed by the left, but donated to the party he actually supported.

He lives in a region where Trump has 90% of support. He's listened constantly to the Trump supporters. If he wanted to vote different in the primaries, he had a good reason for that. Regardless, he was raised on Trump propaganda and nonetheless understood how dangerous it is, so much that he was willing to give his life to protect the country from Trump. Indeed, with Trump gone, Biden could lose to a better Republican candidate. Maybe Crooks wanted that. Who knows. But this is a Republican on Republican assassination attempt. Trump made it legal for the mentally ill to buy guns, with Trump's first act as President. "Thoughts and prayers" for the 3 victims.
