There are many reports of the traditional 180 day FMM no longer being granted, but rather people being given a certain number of days based on their booked accommodation or turned around altogether. Also, people's documents are apparently being checked in tourist areas. I would guess the issuance of temporary residence visas and actual temporary residence is also affected. What are we to make of this? It would probably be possible to live illegally indefinitely in out of the way places assuming you had an unobtrusive source of income, but you would probably want to keep it on the down-low.
