There's been a push to attack the hard sciences and the way they seek for knowledge from the ruling groups. By teaching people methods to properly understand reality they can get in the way of the brainwashing of the government. Even without its influence, I think the libertarian point of view can be very dangerous by itself and we have to deal with the damage that pop culture has done to the masses as well, overall society nowadays is a cesspool of ignorance and anti-intellectualism...
In a healthy nation, people should be taught philosophy since they are young in order to understand reality and their role in society, as well as learn different methods of study like rationalism and empiricism to seek for knowledge. The more this leads people away from ignorance the better, there's nothing more scary than that...
