My story is quite an interesting one but if you're an Australian cosplayer (including from assassin's creed) you will want to know this one.
In 2015, I was invited by a friend who is in an Australian cosplay group called "Assassin's Guild Australia." For many years I was with this group where I could feel safe, be happy and have fun with other cosplayers both AC and Non AC. In 2016 I was invited to stay with the guild leader in Melbourne for Oz Comicon (Since I was from the other side of the country). After that I became the state admin for my home town and an admin for the facebook group. I grew closer to my guild leader to the point I saw him as my mentor, my friend, but mostly my brother. After that con, we attended conventions in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and we would book hotels together. Even in 2017 I stood by him as he proposed to his now ex fiance at the EB Expo in front of friends, fans and the entire Ubisoft team. After his fiance cheated on him and they broke up, I stood by him and helped him through so much pain and suffering.
In 2018 things took an unusual turn, he again invited me back to Melbourne for Oz Comicon and then he also suggested that I train 11 hours with him to Sydney for the 10 year anniversary so I did, we shared a hotel room together with him taking the double bed and myself having the single. We talked about my payment after the con and I said it would take me some time to work up the funds due to being unemployed. Within a month I transferred $500 to cover the hotel in Sydney and things were fine.
4 months later, I was invited to PAX and he again gave me accomodation. I flew over to Melbourne and yet again I was cosplaying. I had a big box that contained props which include (Cutlasses for Edward Kenway, Khopesh sword with shield, bow, arrows and quiver for bayek.) I unfortunately had to leave them behind due to the fact I couldn't afford an uber XL back to the airport at 4am in the morning. He offered to ship my props back and I would transfer money. 2 weeks later he injured himself and he said he would have a family member send my props back. No response or props back.
Then in March of 2019, I was selected to be a Ubisoft Star Player and I was invited to Los Angeles courtesy of Ubisoft. I contacted him for my props but nothing had happened so my Parents and friends over east had to get involved and when he did reply, he sent them to me and told me his mother had cancer. After receiving my props and going to E3, I was much happier, confident and eager to do almost anything.
He then contacted me via phone call and told me that I was becoming egotistical when people in my home town told me I wasn't and he wouldn't disclose who was saying I was toxic. Weeks after that he contacted me yet again but this time via text message and he full on abused me, saying I was this toxic, egotistical little brat and I denied his lies and rumours.
He then proceeded to tell me that our friendship is over and he is yet to return the rest of my property (which will probably never happen) so then I had a rant on twitch about it (without mentioning names or the group) and soon after I was snitched out to him in which he then threatened me with confrontation at the upcoming Ubisoft Experience event in Sydney. Just yesterday one of the admins now my former friend had the balls to tell me that mine and her friendship was over and again today she contacted me complaining that she was a sheep after she decided to follow such an irresponsible and careless leader. After that my membership with the guild was terminated.
During my time as a social media admin, I was told NOT to promote talented cosplayers such as Just Yeliz, Cosplay Chris and many others. The guild did not want to support their own cosplayers that were bright examples in the cosplay community nor did the guild want to work with other Ubisoft communities such as "the mentors guild" and "the one who came before". Therefore it made my job more difficult as the former admin stole the old Twitter page.
So if you are looking to being in a toxic community where they won't promote your work, will actually judge you and when you earn amazing opportunities they stab you in the back, feel free to join these toxic scum bags. But if you really want to keep doing what you love and hope for the best, be with your own crowd and make your own friends.
ASSASSINS GUILD AUSTRALIA DOES NOT DESERVE THESE OPPORTUNITIES.
