A challenge to anyone procrastinating on migrating from Reddit to SaidIt...

Why wait until the hammer falls? If you fear censorship on Reddit, just build up the community here now while it's not a move of desperation under pressure, or whatever may come, unexpectedly or not.

I understand people are accustomed to and invested in Reddit, but really it's a dead horse. SaidIt is now federated and it can only get better and freer. People on Reddit are trading freedom for convenience. Sure it's initially a pain to go to more than one site, but once you get in the good habit only good can come from it. Granted Reddit has more eyes - but are they really all the good eyes that you want? I guess that's for you to say.

Here's a challenge to you, if you're serious about relocating your subs and/or posts: Develop a plan to gradually move folks over. Figure out how you might gradually shift folks over by implementing gradual changes to your posts. For example, start by simply mirror posting everything with a footer link to the SaidIt mirrored post. After a while move that footer to the header. Then do other things like post on SaidIt first then post on Reddit a while later, especially if it's time sensitive so that folks get the scoop on SaidIt first. Perhaps you do half a post on Reddit with a cliff hanger and a link to the entire post available only on SaidIt. Near the end you may just be posting all the goods on SaidIt with a notification on Reddit. Ultimately, in the end there should be no need to post on Reddit, unless they steal that freedom from you before you can choose not to share there.

IMO, you should openly let your community know what you're up to rather than be shady about it. We've had enough of that shit. Just as they've got their bad habits, moving to SaidIt can be a good habit, and adjusting to this "new normal" will actually be good.

I dare you to migrate and/or share your migration plans/ideas/results.

I don't read them either, but if I want info I will read a FAQ, and if I really give a shit about the site/community I may check them out to get the lay of the land.

    I intentionally used the "new normal" to fight the "new normal".

    Not much really is 100% evil, including advertising and the art of persuasion. It's more important how tools are used - to persuade someone to kill themselves or persuade them to better themselves. I can't tell you how many animated and live-action commercials I made between 1995 and 2005, but it was a lot, and I made a lot (as much in one day then as I spend now every month on food). I'd rather be honest and obvious in my pitch than play some subliminal mindfuckery.

    That might be true if your priorities are about getting paid for caring.

    If I'm getting paid then I'd sure like to know about it. If there are checks in the mail then someone's been stealing them. I would prefer to live a little more comfortably, but that's not a priority when I have my freedom - so I won't sell out for comfort again.

    I don't know if you are homeless online or if you have a few sites that you regularly visit. It's no secret I haunt this place, and I believe in uncensored truth-seeking, not just on SaidIt, more than anything - and now SaidIt has federated so, as this, my first sub from approaching 2 years ago is titled, they're decentralizing, a passion of mine almost equal to freedom to communicate.

    I care because it matters.

    Also, FYI, I started this post in a private message, then realized I should share it, so I tweaked it, posted it, and included it in that private message - plus you all get to like it or lump it.

      I miss so many but for every shitty comment I see there's an opportunity to expound some valuable learning stuff for the other readers - and maybe a chance to learn myself.

      Yes, there is no shortage of shills here on Saidit too, but the best response is to deflate their shillery with counterpoints that are as airtight as possible.

      I was almost certain there was something against shitposting in the FAQ, but I guess not, though I am certain it's frowned on as it's low tier on the Pyramid Of Debate. There's no shortage or porn or shitposing on the internet, SaidIt is an alternative to that.

      The thought shaping here aims to be towards freedom and less tribalism.

      If you didn't read it then your comment is ignorant and you don't know why I'm selling it.

      It's also for people who may already know the obvious shit I mention, but need a friendly reminder to actually apply the steps they hadn't considered or were too lazy to bother with. Or maybe they hadn't considered it quite like this. Whatever it may take, this is my little effort. I don't give a shit about Reddit, and this was actually a private message I adopted to share with everyone.

      I think you're missing the main issue which is that many people really like others being censored, they like feeling smug in a bubble where everyone agrees with them, they only get pissy when censorship is done to them.

      So they won't only wait for the hammer to fall, they'll be shocked when it happens and think they are the biggest martyr because they are the only one who didn't deserve it, how very unfair.

      Fair enough and I won't disagree, but I will point out that my post was not really about that so much as proactively taking measures to avoid the whole problem entirely before it's even hammer time.
