It's been posted before but it needs to be repeated, for new and old. This may be among my most important posts ever.
It's no longer capitalism vs communism, as they've merged into a global totalitarian corporatocracy.
Among the worst parts about corporations, besides simply being leaches sucking off society, leveraging their power unfairly (to not pay taxes, etc), or exploiting their human and natural resources, is that they actively externalize expenses to exploit social resources - thus they are free to make profound enormous messes (that otherwise wouldn't be considered) forcing society to deal with them (ie. government food stamps for underpaid employees at Amazon, Walmart, etc - or polluting the environment for the public to deal with).

I was animating in Manhattan when I saw this documentary that changed my life and started me into activism and deeper questions on everything. THIS was that moment for me, I left NYC and haven't animated TV commercials since. By sheer luck, later that year in Vancouver (and later Burning Man, etc), I had the privileged of becoming friends with the lead of the 3 directors, Mark Achbar.
In 2004 or 2005 I asked Mark, (on the left, the 3 directors, from a scene), what the fair alternative to corporations would be and he introduced me to the concept of ParEcon:
Wikipedia: Participatory economics
" Participatory economics, often abbreviated ParEcon, is an economic system based on participatory decision making as the primary economic mechanism for allocation in society. In the system, the say in decision-making is proportional to the impact on a person or group of people. Participatory economics is a form of socialist decentralized planned economy involving the common ownership of the means of production. It is a proposed alternative to contemporary capitalism and centralized planning. This economic model is primarily associated with political theorist Michael Albert and economist Robin Hahnel, who describe participatory economics as an anarchist economic vision. "
" The underlying values that parecon seeks to implement are equity, solidarity, diversity, workers' self-management, efficiency (defined as accomplishing goals without wasting valued assets) and sustainability. The institutions of parecon include workers' and consumers' councils utilizing self-managerial methods for decision-making, balanced job complexes, remuneration based on individual effort, and wide participatory planning. FREE! : The Corporation Postcards
I still have a bunch of their 2004 promotional postcards (ie. ZoomCards, MaxRacks, etc) and if anyone would like I could snail-mail you one or a few. Private message me the name and address, and if you want to remain anonymous figure out a way to receive it without wasting my stamp (I'm not rich and won't try multiple strategies).
* While quantities last. The postcards look like if not identical to this if I recall correctly. I'll have to dig them up, assuming any one's interested. Also, don't expect me to be timely. I may have to wait until June or later.
I'm surprised to search and find it seems I hadn't posted this documentary before, though I know I've certainly mentioned it before. Search doesn't find "Achbar", though I've clearly mentioned him. I don't understand the limits of SaidIt search, or why there aren't "next page" or 100 or 500 results.
