GC: Who are we going to argue with here?

I loved the old sub and I'm ride-or-die GC, but even I have to admit that GCs outnumbered QTs pretty badly back there, and here on Saidit the numbers will be even more lopsided. Are we expecting any QTs to show up, or are we going to mostly be talking to each other?

I don't think TRAs want to debate us. They tell each other that our critiques of their world view are transphobic. I think they realise that clarity doesn't really help them.

I feel the same. It's obvious that the dynamic will be different. I understand why people don't want to join this site... I don't like it either, but at this point I am not sure it's that much worse than reddit dot com.

I don't have a good answer, sorry. But I will repeat what I said in another comment... I think back to the multitude of accusations the pro-trans/QT side made on the old board. You know... too many downvotes are silencing us, this is a cruel echo chamber, so on, and so on.... yet, it's clear from browsing r/GenderCynical etc., that they simply retreated happily to the monotonous reverberations within their own chambers.

Maybe r/QTberatesGC would be allowed now? Nah... what am I thinking? We all know anything less than GCobeysQT is unacceptable.

I think they'll show up eventually. There's no shortage QT folks on Twitter who want to argue with me. It's the same old tired shit, but they're there.

We'll have to wait and see how this site develops. I think some of them might follow us here, because they will get bored all alone. Or like you got the fundies on atheist sites, because they got credit-points for witnessing (IIRC they had to do 10 posts for full credit by their "prof"). Might develop to leftists-GC vs. conservative-GC.

Going by the current content of r/GenderCynical, they really do just follow people around and complain about them even after they get them banned.

It’s sad. I feel like it’s hard too get real QT people to participate even in the previous sub because why would you even involve yourself if you support current trans activism. Your side is already winning. I feel like many of the queer/trans folks who did participate already had some issue with it, even we weren’t like seriously GC.

It's only been 4 days, and we're already up to 148 subscribers. Not bad, but it will take time to rebuild. I feel like we may never attract the same number of QT people, but we should be able to attract some. I'm fine with a smaller sub as long as we have good quality of discussion.

By the way, I keep getting messages from the Discord server even though I can't see them. People are mentioning my name, but it won't let me see anything without putting in a mobile phone, which I refuse to do.

There was a post in the old sub with a link with the invite from Biochem. I just clicked that.

I have no clue how it actually works, though, I posted a couple of comments but I am not learning how everything works there because it's not really a configuration I am fond of.

Try asking divingrightintowork or Elly, they are (or at least were) in the server and they certainly know much more about it than me.

There probably is a place for a GC sub where GC ideas can be openly questioned and debated (which is completely understandable of course that that is not what they want on the main sub). I do feel GC views are not well understood not only by trans people but by the general public at large so perhaps this sub can serve more an education and discussion function, allowing people to ask questions they could not ask in the GC sub.

I don't know, how much traction that can gain with the size we are right now. Losing our Reddit presence was a huge blow.

Multiple GC members told me to come here because I'm basically a "terfy TRA" meaning that I support trans ppl but I'm critical of some aspects of the community, so maybe you could argue with me 😂

I was wondering this too. I'm not sure this sub makes much sense anymore as originally intended. I've been reading thru some of the conversations, though, and they're still interesting and in the spirit of the old sub. One thing I liked about the old sub is that a variety of people from different ideologies gave their viewpoint. It was really interesting in that sense.
