Yeah I remember how hard it was to tell my mama from a clownfish.

Answer responses to your nonsense in old threads before starting the next one or be a funnier troll. This is ridiculous.

Don't be absurd. Clownfish don't give birth to houseplants.

As if there’s such thing as a distinction between a clownfish and a houseplant. Words are human constructs and nothing observed in nature can be described because observations are bigotry for terfs.

What the Hell are you talking about, of course they do!

I mean, OP is right that humans and mushrooms are the same thing, otherwise how could you explain this offspring of theirs?

How are clownfishes and houseplants different? Do you think it' s a coincidence that clownfishes use sea plants as houses? Where exactly do you think baby clownfishes come from?

Geez, educate yourself!!!!!

Ah hell. Looks like I’ve got to take a long hard look at myself over my speciesism. I’d like to take this moment to sincerely apologise to the million literal suicides and murders and panic attacks in clownfish communities or households that occurred because of my comment. You just may be the most dedicated troll to ever come to this sub.

Sort of hoping they will really commit to the foolishness and post a picture of a plucked chook, calling it a man because it’s bipedal and featherless.

Please be respectful to your fellow participants by taking the time to respond in your other threads before creating additional ones. Many commenters have made an effort to address your points, but you have remained silent.

Can we have a rule that accounts have a certain amount of post karma or something before posting? Because the trolling (?) is being done by accounts with only 1 post and 0 post karma. I think all the weird word salad-y questions are coming from the same person, who each time they eat shit runs away and makes a new account and asks a thinly reworded question asking the same thing.

Though Google says some species can switch from sexual reproduction to asexual reproduction, so there are five sexes

This is also very wrong. Yes, there are animals that can engage in both sexual and asexual reproduction. No, these animals aren't a new sex. They don't produce a new type of gamete. They are all female with the ability to clone themselves. The offspring of asexual reproduction are clones. Sex brings genetic diversity which is why it evolved. Genetic diversity helps organisms adapt to changing environments better.

As always, I am posting a reply mainly for the readers/lurkers.

Humans are one of the few species with two sexes.

humans are of the very few that have only 2 sexes

"male" and "female" are socially constructed categories that can only be applied to humans and few others

99% of multicellular organisms and all the "higher animals" reproduce sexually. Scientists say sexual reproduction has been occurring for 2 billion years.

The emergence of species that reproduce sexually did not mean that species that reproduce in other ways disappeared and no longer exist. Species that reproduce in various ways can, and do, co-exist. Some species reproduce both sexually and asexually.

Birds do it, and bees do it. Indeed, researchers estimate that over 99.99% of eukaryotes* do it, meaning that these organisms reproduce sexually, at least on occasion.

*(An eukaryote is an organism consisting of a cell or cells in which the genetic material is DNA in the form of chromosomes contained within a distinct nucleus. Eukaryotes include all living organisms other than the eubacteria and archaebacteria. Eukaryotes are distinct from prokaryotes. A prokaryote is a microscopic single-celled organism that has neither a distinct nucleus with a membrane nor other specialized organelles. Prokaryotes include the bacteria and cyanobacteria.)

99.99% of all eukaryote species constitute a tad more than "few."

sex(ual reproduction) is incredibly common. Furthermore, even though asexual lineages do arise, they rarely persist for long periods of evolutionary time. Among flowering plants, for example, predominantly asexual lineages have arisen over 300 times, yet none of these lineages is very old. Furthermore, many species can reproduce both sexually and asexually, without the frequency of asexuality increasing and eliminating sexual reproduction altogether.

https://www.nature.com/scitable/topicpage/sexual-reproduction-and-the-evolution-of-sex-824/

This goes to show "male" and "female" are socially constructed categories that can only be applied to humans and few others, making them not universally true categories that can be applied to every specie.

"Female" and "male" refer to the two kinds of gametes required for sexual reproduction - eggs/ova and sperm. Sexual reproduction does not involve any additional kinds of gametes - there is no third, fourth, 100th or 20,000th kind of gamete.

No one has ever claimed that male and female "can be applied to every specie [sic]". We say these terms apply to species that reproduce sexually.

Humans are not fungi. BTW, there are a lot of kinds of fungi on earth, and they are highly diverse.

We conclude that the commonly cited estimate of 1.5 million species (of fungi) is conservative and that the actual range is properly estimated at 2.2 to 3.8 million. With 120,000 currently accepted fungi species, it appears that at best just 8%, and in the worst case scenario just 3%, are named so far.

Fungi have multiple ways of reproducing.

Reproductive Processes Of Fungi: Following a period of intensive growth, fungi enter a reproductive phase by forming and releasing vast quantities of spores. Spores are usually single cells produced by fragmentation of the mycelium or within specialized structures (sporangia, gametangia, sporophores, etc.). Spores may be produced either directly by asexual methods or indirectly by sexual reproduction.

Sexual reproduction in fungi, as in other living organisms, involves the fusion of two nuclei that are brought together when two sex cells (gametes) unite. Asexual reproduction, which is simpler and more direct, may be accomplished by various methods.

https://www.britannica.com/science/fungus/Sexual-reproduction

But all this about fungi is besides the point. Fungi are not humans or mammals, just as clownfish aren't. Fungi are different from other plants too, which is why they are classified separately.

The planet has created four sexes: Male, female, hermaphrodite, asexual. Though Google says some species can switch from sexual reproduction to asexual reproduction, so there are five sexes. Male, female, hermaphrodite, asexual, male/female/hermaphrodite and asexual.

Nature itself created an unlimited number of sexes for many species

There are species with four, thousands, or an unlimited number of sexes

mushrooms have thousands of sexes

Claiming in the same short post that there are "four, five, thousands and an unlimited number of sexes" is poor form even for you. Sounds like your abacus is broken.

Mushrooms can mate with any member of their specie of any sex.

Yes, sex is a social construct in humans because mushrooms have, apparently, 36000 sexes, and there is literally no difference between humans and mushrooms.

Give this guy a Nobel for medicine, biology and peace!

Everything fungi do is bizarre AF compared to plants and animals. Like, they have isogamy and mate via mating tubes, not eggs and sperm. LIke its a no brainer that biology is complicated and weird and different organisms have sex in different ways but to shoehorn this information into trans ideology and then go well therefore trans is totally at thing etc checkmate is so odd.

It's especially embarrassing because this person just keeps re-asking the same question after being proven over and over again why they're wrong in other threads.

I truly think some sort of mental illness is on display here, this person's bizarre rambling questions and the few answers they've provided sound kind of like answers a student I once knew who had to drop out of school for having schizophrenia provided.

Only a few species have eyes, therefore eyes are not real. You only think you have eyes, you really don't. Who are you going to believe, me, or your lying eyes?

[–]SnowAssMan 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Asexual isn't really a sex (hence the 'a' part) & hermaphrodite is both sexes together, so where are these third, fourth, fifth etc. sexes you speak of?

"one of the few species" – I looked up 'species' for fun & this is the first thing that comes up: "A species is often defined as the largest group of organisms in which any TWO individuals of the appropriate sexes or mating types can produce fertile offspring" lol

Btw you accidentally admitted that there are only 2 sexes in humans, thereby disproving the idea that it's a social construct. FYI, coming up with a sci-fi story outlining a future scenario in which humans reproduce differently inexplicably doesn't make reality a social construct, the construct is your sci-fi story idea.

You're correct that bimodal sex isn't universal. But that does not make a social construct on its own. I think that male and female are socially constructed beyond their simple scientific meaning. But the basis, bimodal sex is not.

Maybe you can elaborate on the connection a bit more.

[–]kwallio 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

male and female are socially constructed

Please just stop. Male and female are not socially constructed. The gender roles assigned to each are, tho.

[–]MarkTwainiac 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

male and female are socially constructed beyond their simple scientific meaning. But the basis, bimodal sex is not.

Male and female denote sex. Sex is determined by biology/nature. Masculine and feminine denote gender or sex roles and stereotypes. They are socially determined.

Sex isn't bimodal; it's binary. This explains why sex is not bimodal:
