Many of us were like him, not to long ago. Trying to be reasonable, kind and empathic. Until something happened and we examined the issue closely, and we were snapped awake, peaked. We can't peak him. He's got to go through it himself, do his own critical thinking. Many/most can't or won't. So ya, I'm not holding my breathe, but will not be surprised to see him go hold on, wtf is going on with all this. Especially since he's old and seen a lot.

I honestly can't wait for irrational TRAs to peak Stephen King. I know they can do it. I'm rooting for them.

I agree. And I think he already has taken a step back to reflect about his semi-automatic backpaddling in fear of the TRA. The backlash is definitely already humongous if you look at the reactions to what he posted. It will be interesting to see where this goes.

It's amazing how even when he says essentially "I'm on your side, TRA, but not when you're hateful and trying to silence women," they can't grasp this at all. Being hateful and silencing women IS their mission so they really don't understand what else there is that he can support.

I'm glad he didn't go quiet. At this point, every tweet creates more opportunity for responses that expose people to what's going on.

Evanna Lynch (Luna Lovegood) got chased off twitter for saying the same thing.

I understand that he writes fiction, but the way he treats women in his books is terrible. He must have been a nightmare for Tabitha to live with because of his addictions as well. I wouldn't trust him to tell me how to butter toast, he obviously has very little regard for women.

The catastrophizing in responses to any critique of trans issues is part of how I peaked in the first place. No one is trying to deny trans people's existence! Most of us weren't even trying to deny people their desired pronouns or surface their birth names or anything like that.

All we've been trying to do is preserve the language to discuss our material reality and advocate for our own needs and legal rights, like progressive politics is supposed to support! We've generally looked for ways for everyone to have their needs met. Heck, I wouldn't even personally mind using "cis" as part of a framework in which I was able to advocate for the distinctiveness of my identity, needs, and rights as a cis woman. But none of that is ever enough for the activism.

It comes across as so narcissistic.

No one is trying to deny trans people's existence!

My god they love that argument. The ridiculous hyperbole. Tbh, I think they are erasing their own existence. Saying transwomen are women/transmen are men is erasing the trans part of their identity. Maybe these TRAs should realize their own internalized transphobia. ;3

I've seen multiple trans people make that exact point.

If I thought I could do it without getting cancelled in my real life social circles, I would genuinely like to talk to some of the trans people I know about this. Because to me, it seems like if we take trans activism at its word and state that sex is spectrum with no connection to men/women, then this should also lead to:

a) no insurance for medical transition. How could medical transition be a medical need in this framework? Estrogen doesn't make a woman/man. Breasts don't make a woman/man. The appearance of specific gentials doesn't make a woman/man. Medical transition must be a cosmetic desire, similar to breast enhancement or a nose job, and thus should be paid for personally.

b) no sex or gender segregated spaces. What's the need for them in this framework? Since there's no physical component to men/women in this framework, what's the purpose of segregating spaces? All they do is place a burden on non-binary people, who have to either misgender themselves or have their own special places. (this legit upsets me in sports conversations... I think sports categories need to be based on biological sex not gender identity, so accommodating non-binary people isn't a problem in my desired system. But I do not understand how people can advocate for for woman/man competitive categories on the basis of gender identity and not view it as a serious problem that non-binary people have to misgender themselves to compete.)

c) no gender markers at all, actually. What purpose do they serve?

Like it all seems so transparently fake. No one can truly believe in gender ideology as advocated by the dominant forms of trans activism because it is so inconsistent.

He also replied "It's great!" to some Ickabog art that J. K. Rowling praised. There are numerous replies scolding him simply for engaging with Rowling at all, even though he's talking about art that isn't even hers. I hope that he refuses to be swayed by the mob demanding that he cancel her; for all of his problems, he's still one of my favorite authors.

What is this bigots 'deny our existence' from the TRA brigade? I don't think anyone is claiming there isn't currently a small group of men with a disproportional political influence who what to pretend to be women and gain all of women's sex based rights for themselves. If they didn't exist they'd be no reason to fight them, would there?

The logical extension of TRA thought however is that there is not a type of human that is separate and distinct from men. In fact it is them who are arguing, effectively, that women do not exist. They also are making a concerted effort to erase all language that refers to women.

I mean I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but come on! How does everyone not see this!?

Why do you think he spoke to someone gender-critical? He just seems to stand for free speech.

Because it is a halfabout turn to before. He spoke to someone, or reflected on it, or whatever. What I mean is that he is actively reflecting on what has and is happening and isn't being the same idiot as quite a few others now.

Remind yourselves that when these HETEROSEXUAL MEN claim TWAW, they also would NEVER date one. Because when men say NO to penis, suddenly it matters.

I have wondered why Daniel Radcliffe does not actually date anyone trans, wonder what that makes him, a bigot like he has called JK Rowling and anyone else who agrees with her.
