I think my local library just pulled Abigail Shrier's "Irreversible Damage" from its shelves-- anyone else have this experience?

Hi everyone!! I didn't know this forum was here, I've missed the GC subreddit so much.

So I went to pick up Abigail Shrier's new book from my Midwestern public library and... it was gone. Just days ago, it showed up in a search of the catalog; today, nothing, as if they never carried it at all. I emailed the librarian to make sure that it's not an error on my end, and I'm planning on raising hell if it was pulled. I was thinking of making a list of all the books they do carry (Mein Kampf, etc) and also forwarding along articles written by transactivists condemning censoring her book.

Has anyone else experienced this? I'm so livid and hopeless. I believe in her book (I have a teen sister who's struggling with some of these things now, as I did at her age) and would be heartbroken to find that it's already become literally banned.

I put a hold on that book at the main library in my city. Looks like all seven of their copies are out, and I’m 19 out of 22 waiting for it. I hope no one has been defacing them.

No library in my entire state has the book unfortunately. I did buy it on Amazon for myself but sad to see that it's not available through the public libraries.

Wow, that’s even more than what I’m dealing with! I bet you anything no one would have even known about the book if it wasn’t for the outrage around it. All I’ve heard from rational people is that she treats the subject very sensitively so I just have to know what’s so offensive about it haha.

My library system has 76 holds on 13 copies of the ebook, 21 holds on 3 copies of the audiobook, and 59 holds on 7 copies of the print book. And I'm in a very liberal area. I'm pleasantly surprised.

dang! May I ask approximately where? I'm in MA - I was surprised there were no ebooks or audiobooks - I may em ail my library to see how they get ebooks / audiobooks and see if I can nominate that one.

It's the library system for the surrounding area of a big west coast city.

No, but I requested it months ago and they haven’t ordered it. I swear to God, they have at least three trans-rights books in New Non-Fiction all the time.
