You know... this would be creepy if it was an adult woman saying this. Sometimes I like watching shows aimed at kids, or making dolls or frilly dresses... but those things don't make me a child. Nor is the fantasy of being a child in any way appealing. No, I wouldn't want to be six. I want to be an adult woman with my own home and my own possessions that I bought for myself, who occasionally enjoys media or objects more associated with kids.

So... even if the trans nonsense was real... it's so disturbing that more people don't call this shit out. It's ten times creepier coming from an adult man, but if he was a woman? Still. Creepy. Abnormal. Fetishistic. Grow the fuck up and develop a healthy self-perception.

Is there anyone with a psychology background who can take a stab at what's going on here? I'm not sure this is autogynephelia. It seems more like unhappy adult males who don't feel they measure up to societal expectations of males and are trying to find inner peace by regressing. Perhaps they feel young females are more entitled to the kind of caregiving and indulgence they feel they have lacked in their lives, and this is why they perceive themselves as being born the 'wrong' gender.

I for one never wore pigtails as a child, nor wore fancy socks, nor played with dolls, nor had a lot of the formative experiences they seem to think are intrinsic to being a young girl.

Autogynephilia has many different permutations, and the permutations are evolving and expanding as AGP and male sexual fetishism in general become more normalized, more acceptable and more common. And AGP has never been a stand-alone condition in most cases. Men with one paraphilia typically have at least one other paraphilia or several of them. Moreover, most men with AGP have pre-existing or co-existing personality disorders, mental illnesses, cognitive conditions that set them apart from the norm, maladaptive traits, obsessive tendencies, etc - and they tend to engage in a wide number and kinds of "flights of fancy."

I agree with you that additional things are going on with a lot of these guys today. There seems to be a more pronounced desire than ever before for infantilization. But men not wanting to grow up is not new: in the 70s and 80s, a lot was written about adolescent and grown men with a "Peter Pan complex."

Amongst AGPs, the age-regression thing has always quite common. Though these men demand that the world say "TWAW" and they want to have the word "woman" for themselves, when not on their soapboxes they tend to call themselves and each other "girls." And the older they get, the more they cling to the idea that they are "girls." Eddie Izzard's recent antics are a good illustration. At 58, Eddie hasn't been a boy for many decades. But that hasn't stopped him from saying he now is living FT in "girl mode" - except that is, when it comes to acting jobs. Those, he says, he'll audition for and do "in boy mode."

Female childhood, how fondly I remember it; my mother teaching me to never go with a stranger, how to try to fight if anyone ever tried to take me away, having to put that to use to get my cousin and myself safely away from someone who tried to kidnap us in my front yard, being stalked as a child, my close friends being sexually assaulted before we even knew what that was, being sexualized by creepy adults before I even knew what that meant. Maybe I should have identified as a boy to spare myself the trauma instead of letting my mother raise a strong woman who's willing to fight.. But we all know it doesn't really work that way. Nobody asked me how I "identified" when they were trying to get me into that van.
