Recently I've seen a lot of social media posts that claim a female or woman is
Someone who uses she/her or she/they pronounce and identifies with being female or a woman.
But this view confines being female to humans only - and to fully awake, aware and mature humans at that.
Other plant and animal species that reproduce sexually don't use pronouns - and they can't be assumed to have the kinds of consciousness that cause them to "identify with" being female or a woman. Yet other species can tell the difference between members of their own species who are male and female, and some/many can discern males from females in other species as well. But I don't think any evidence has been brought forward that other species have the ability to "identify as" something they are not.
Moreover, amongst humans only, there are many people who are incapable of using pronouns or being able to "identify as" a sex or gender coz they are in comas, are drugged up out of their minds on narcotics or hallucinogens or tranquilizers, have CO2 narcosis, dementia or other disorders that reduce their consciousness of self and others and cause them to have severely diminished mental capacity.
There was a case a year or two ago of a woman in Arizona who was impregnated and delivered a child even though she was a long-term, bed-ridden resident of a nursing home considered to have zero or limited consciousness because she was comatose, in a persistent vegetative state or otherwise suffering from severe brain damage that left her effectively "brain dead." But her lack of ability to use pronouns or "identify with" being female or a woman didn't stop a male nurse from seeing her as female and raping and impregnating her.
Most of us spend a third of our lives asleep. When we are asleep, we do not typically use pronouns or have the ability to "identify as" anything. Does that mean we do not have a sex when asleep?
How, then, to explain why so many girls and women have had the experience of waking up from a deep sleep to find that their partner - or a brother, father, uncle, grandfather, male housemate, neighbor or stranger - is trying to stick his dick into her?
Millions of human fetuses are aborted every year for being female. None of them had the ability to use pronouns or "identify as" anything. Does that mean they didn't or don't have a sex?
