There's some info missing here. I assume you mean a petition to have sex reassignment surgery covered by government insurance? I suggest the best strategy is to non-judgementally ask questions about the petition. What procedures does 'gender affirmation' entail? At what ages? Are there clinical studies? Hey, look, did you see this thing about the Tavistock, and all these pediatric gender clinics that are now moving away from puberty blockers and the 'affirmation model'?

Yes. The petition is very much "I have a friend who needs this, they can get it for medical reasons but it's not fair for those who are deluded and want their delusions validated". I really don't want to put in exact wording, or any wording leading up to it because I don't want people to flock to that petition. I'm not going to converse with my acquaintance about it, he clearly supports this stuff.
