I got no idea. Honestly. I also feel like whoever wins tomorrow I'll be surprised. I was surprised when Trump won in 2016, again surprised when Biden won in 2020 regardless of polls.

I think it'll be Harris. I'm not even sure who is the lesser evil, considering the longterm ramifications of everything. Dems are bought by big Tech and Reps are bought by big oil, both are bad for women. If Democrats had a plausible route for improving abortion access federally, it would be much clearer. On a personal moral level I'm confident Harris is better than Trump, and deep down she probably does think this gender stuff is baloney, but what good is that when she toes the party line? I'm sure Trump doesn't truly believe abortion is wrong (for only selfish reasons I'm sure), but he toed the line and selected anti-choice justices, so whatever he personally thought or felt about it was irrelevant.

I am concerned about how Harris will do on the international stage. Not only about the ramifications for other countries, but also more selfishly how it'll affect the willingness of Americans to elect another woman. Yes, it's not fair that she'll be under extra scrutiny for being female when there have been plenty of mediocre men failing upward, but it is a fact, and I wonder whether a bad Harris presidency might tip a future election between a better female candidate and a male candidate worse than Trump in the favor of the worse man by reinforcing existing sexist biases. For whatever criticisms are levied justifiably or otherwise against Obama, he was a serious statesman and a capable orator who handled pressure well, and it put into stark relief how ridiculous the bigoted elements of his opposition were.

Hopefully she'll surprise me, and rather than Dems doubling down entrenching themselves further into black-and-white toddler reasoning of If Bad Man Against Child Sex Changes And Males in Female Sport Then Those Things Good, maybe we'll see the opposition movement to genderism strengthen with refusal to follow federal orders. In which case I'll probably be fine in this red state but girls in blue states who don't want to see peanuts in their locker rooms have to tough it or stay home. I know it would not be something I could tolerate, and I would exclude myself from sports and gyms and college trips to professional conferences rather than be forced to room with a man.

Being a lesbian, I am of course concerned about the conservative backlash, which has been inevitable for the last decade when all the gay organizations got captured. LGB Alliance is our last hope on this front. DIAG for redeemin liberal values generally in the eyes of the culture, although I wish they chose a better, catchy name. Way too close to the acronym for "die in a fire" so there's an alarming millisecond before I recognize it's a G and not an F. Since I first got canceled over this issue 15 years ago, I saw the authoritarianism rising on the Democrat side, and while the Republicans have tined down the antigay rhetoric, they don't offer a good alternative, but remembering that initial despair, I understand why people would want to believe they are a good option once they can no longer tolerate the Democrats. It sucks to realize that the Democrats sold the American left to corporations for kickbacks and clamping down on free speech, and you naturally want to believe there is some good path out, much like as an autistic kid perpetually on the outside, I wanted to believe that if only I were in a different culture, my social problems would cease to exist, but that is not reality. The reality is that I'm an outsider to all cultures and always will be.

In short, I think we're screwed either way, but rather than despair, take action against those elements that you oppose in whichever force gains more power. There is much that is out of our control, so focus on what IS in your control to improve your community and yourself. Help out womens shelters or abortion funds for women who can't afford to travel, contribute to WOLF, LGB Alliance, or DIAG, speak honestly to your friends in the most sacred act of rebellion against the authoritarian, develop your skills for your career or self-sufficiency. There is always an action you can make for tomorrow to be better than today. Despair, however warranted, will take you nowhere good. Take it from someone who knows.

Ditto. Much as I hate to say it, most countries are run by shitty men from cultures that don't respect women. A female POTUS would not only have to be qualified. She would have to radiate scary, battle axe, "take no shit" energy in order to go toe to toe with hostile male leaders. Hillary Clinton has that. Tulsi Gabbard has it. But Harris just doesn't radiate that kind of "don't fuck with me" energy.

Yeah. Its unfair. But these are things we have to think about when the next POTUS might have to negotiate with men who run misogynistic hellholes like Afghanistan or Iran

That is those men’s problem, which actually they’ve handled. When a woman actually gets to be president or pm, they’ll deal with her on a practical basis just as they did with Bhutto and as they will if Kim jong uns sister is appointed.

[–]flapsaidit 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

I’m a very superstitious person so I haven’t decided one way or the other. Calling it for either candidate feels like inviting disaster. 🙈

Tried to @ you under soundsituations comment on this thread but couldn't get it to work. I get were not on ovarit but tbh ive lost all patience with the conservatives pushing feminist women to delete their accounts. Gossiping about users the moment the mods are away is shit behavior

[–]flapsaidit 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Hey, I appreciate your comment, but I don’t mod over here on Saidit anymore. If you see stuff that you feel is rule breaking you will want to talk to the mods here. I do agree, I also have a distaste for talking about users “behind their backs” so to speak.

[–]WrongToy[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think she’s asking about behavior at ovarit. That’s how I heard it.

Talking about Ovarit’s admin decisions breaks no rules here. Talking about differences in moderation styles isn’t either. We let people post pro tra material to critique it. If you want to post a YouTube, do it. Those are the biggest differences I can think of.

[–]Donewithitt 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Talking to the mods here wont help when the one gossiping is a mod here. Ig my point of messaging you is hoping to make admins aware of these people who claim to be on ovarit in good faith but then show theie true colors here. That snideness seeps into their ovarit comments and women pick up on it and its that behavior thats driving women away.

[–]WrongToy[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I’m not sure who this is but report it to modmail and soundsituation or me will look at it.

[–]Donewithit 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

You arent the admin of ovarit so I have no reason to report it to you

[–]WrongToy[S,M] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I thought you were addressing a situation at saidit. sorry. We do not have anything that would stop you from reporting it to flap via dm if you choose.

[–]worried19 8 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 0 fun9 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think Trump will win. I'm not going to be happy with the outcome either way.

[–]googlyeyes6 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Prob Trump because the economy is very bad. Harris needs to say yes it’s bad but we can fix it, instead of gaslighting the working class saying it’s great.

And people are sick of the open immigration. Something people don’t want to talk about is how these men come here and don’t assimilate, they bring their backwards views of women with them. I have put up with creepy immigrant men and my coworkers have been groped by Indian men enough that we watch each others backs when they’re near. If immigration needs to be done it needs to be super slow for assimilation. Or only women allowed in

[–]WrongToy[S] 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Part of the immigration angle, too, has to do with our shrinking social safety net through life. Medicare, Medicaid and social security. My mom came legally, gained citizenship, sponsored her mom legally. Grandma became a citizen in her 70s and soon after went on Medicaid and state welfare as she hadn’t worked here enough to qualify for ss or Medicare.

These days, they’ll just give any illegal Medicaid and state aid on entry up to and including free hotels. This while hurricane Helene victims are living in tents with the power linemen finally striking after having slept in their trucks for weeks without getting paid.

Not to mention the obscene costs of basic necessities like rent and groceries. A working couple could generally afford to buy a house in 2016. Now? Even couples with dual incomes and good jobs can barely afford a 2 bedroom apartment

Regardless of whether or not that was Biden/Harris' fault, it happened under their watch. And Harris doesn't seem to have any clear plan in mind to fix those problems

[–]LoveScience 7 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 0 fun8 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I suspect Trump will win the electoral college and Harris will win the popular vote. Harris has a lot working against her - she's only had a few months to campaign and rally a base, and Biden has been an albatross on her neck with all of his gaffes and his poor approval ratings.

I'm trying to steel myself for the results and focus on the pros to either candidate winning, though.

I believe this too. Being involved in pro choice since age 16, I have sat aghast while Kamala has tried to scare people with rhetoric while neither she nor Biden has taken steps to ensure that the gray market remains too ubitiqitous to ban by elevating miso in its original purpose so heavy nsaid users wouldn’t get ulcers. We aunties pay it forward by being the emergency supply. Hell, it’s better than reading Our Bodies Ourselves 1973 edition to learn how you and friends could affect a surgical vacuum abortion using mason jars and acquarium tubing. And where was the letter from Medicare and Medicaid stating funds would be cut off for hospitals that refuse to treat ectopic pregnancies or membrane rupture and open cervix prior to 20 weeks? There won’t ever be a baby there, just a dead woman.

[–]LoveScience 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Agreed - I'm deeply unhappy with the response at the Federal level after RvW fell. I wasn't aware that miso could be justified for other purposes but that's exactly the kind of creative idea I'd hope they would be pursuing. Instead it felt like we got a collective shrug "whelp - there's nothing we can do - it's in the states hands now". Yet now we're being strung along again and being told women's reproductive rights are still on the line.

I predict that if Trump wins, the people fear-mongering about Project 2025 and a fascist dictatorship won't admit they were wrong. Whatever happens, I predict that we'll never hear from tuffterfies again.

[–]JustForThis 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I hope we do. I like reading both sides of the aisle. Besides, her engagement with other users brought out their best arguments. I appreciated that.

[–]sallytomato 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Curious, why do you think we won't hear from her again?

[–]soundsituationmeow 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I think she was working for the Harris campaign (you can read about that kind of thing here if you're curious), and thus won't find much reason to participate after the election.

My niece plays teen club volleyball. I don’t want her to have to play boys or men.

One of my two nephews was arrested for child porn on a 1 mil bail. My sister is rich and got him off with 6 months in county jail. If however he had gone to state prison for years, even I was saying sardonically that he might as well identify as female to prevent sex assaults on him. In reality, I don’t think that should be an option for any male.

[–]arcticbasket 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I think it could go either way, but if I have to guess, I'll say Trump.

[–]WrongToy[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

As seen here, fda hasn’t even officially approved miso for abortion. It’s not like Biden, or Obama, or Clinton’s fda changed this.

Harris.

[–]Venefica 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Could go either way, but I'll go with Harris.

I predict that Biden is going to be insufferable after this.
