Good point! Well, let's hope so! I think failure to address uncertainty surrounding this is the article's biggest weakness.

Just to clarify. I agree that the 3.4% is an overestimate.
I think the article's best point is that the death rate is not fixed, but depends on e.g. how many people get the virus at the same time. It it's a lot all at the same time, it can be expected to rise sharply.
