Ugh even in the banned subs list beside the GC is a tiny f*uck terfs. I can't roll my eyes any further back into my skull without worrying they'll get stuck there.

[–]dworkinian 39 insightful - 4 fun39 insightful - 3 fun40 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

I saw that too! GC was the only sub to have an extra tidbit by its name. Reddit truly hates women. Good riddance to those idiots.

[–]joe_rogan_is_a_chud 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They love women, they just don't love women who question things they're told or act in their self-interest.

[–]Aureus 56 insightful - 6 fun56 insightful - 5 fun57 insightful - 6 fun -  (4 children)

It was inevitable the admins would ban any sub not fitting their SJW agenda. I think the backup is /s/GenderCritical

[–]peakitypeaked 70 insightful - 5 fun70 insightful - 4 fun71 insightful - 5 fun -  (2 children)

The crazy thing is that I once considered myself a very progressive SJW a decade ago, and I was very proud of it. Now in the year 2020, having the exact same left-leaning and gender critical views as I had, means I'm equivalent to a Nazi who wants all trans people to die. No. This is madness. Thank you GenderCritical for existing and for the sensible, anti-misogyny discourse to happen here.

[–]Wahwah 18 insightful - 3 fun18 insightful - 2 fun19 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

That's weaponising an ideology, the transgender issues in my eyes are pretty legitimate (it may not be in your eyes and that's fine) but then the issue is transformed into an ideology by the radical left and exploited to further their Marxist agendas, and if you disagree you are literally Nazi.

Same thing happened to feminism, the issues it classically addressed were pragmatic, but then it got weaponised and dissent was summarily ruled as misogyny. Other movements like LGBT, race relations, minority issues, veganism etc. are also exploited similarly I feel.

[–][deleted] 9 insightful - 7 fun9 insightful - 6 fun10 insightful - 7 fun -  (0 children)

Just remember, when us National Socialists are driven out they are coming for you next. The marxists always project their sins on others. We are canaries in the coal mine. The slippy slope of censorship starts with us.

Me too! I’m sad to see such a strong subreddit go. I went there when I needed some good positive female strength but now I have nowhere to go but here.

This may be a wild ride for a while, as the predominant people I'm seeing on here are Gender Critical folks and then some other folks who keep insisting that the power structure of the U.S. is full of communists and Jews. So like, the literal Nazis are here with what would have been called the "Feminazis" in the 90's. On the one hand, I'm happy to see free speech even if I vehemently disagree with some of it. On the other hand, this is so dystopian that we're stuck with the Nazis.

[–]kadika 19 insightful - 2 fun19 insightful - 1 fun20 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

For real though... I dont like censorship and I believe science (and sex) is real and I guess we get banned for that now.

The thing is though, I'm not a hateful liberal authoritarian either. I don't have an authoritarian "ban everyone that doesn't agree with me" mindset and I don't need hateful liberal fanaticism to fill space inside me that should have been filled with a mother's love. I don't send death threats and I try to treat folks with respect.

I don't hate on people, I believe everyone's life has value (yes including white people) and I march with BLM and gay rights movements because other people aren't treating their lives as valuable and that's bullshit. I def don't want to be grouped with Nazis and racists bc those are also hateful authoritarian ideologies. Racism and antisemitism and sexism are. also. real. 2020 is the year of false dichotomies, nuance and respect is dead.

[–]Girlwiththeraventat 6 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 0 fun7 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wish we could all just have open discussions so we can learn from other points of view. But I guess outrage sells the most, for print and the Internet.

[–]DimDroog 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I'm happy to see free speech even if I vehemently disagree with some of it.

Me too.

I remember when the ACLU defended the right of the KKK to have their infamous parade in Skokie, Ill.

I don't think people from outside the USA understand how important the 1st Amendment is to many Americans.

I was raised in a cult, (just now realizing it IS a cult, SGI) and our speech and thoughts were controlled.

Never again.

It's inhuman.

[–]Girlwiththeraventat 5 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 0 fun6 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Amen. Jesus Christ what a ride. Everyone on reddit should have seen the writing on the wall when they banned fatpeoplehate and when blackpeopletwitter became a literal black supremacy sub

Seeing reddit ban GC but keep up some awful porn stuff... really like being banged in the head with a gong. A wake up to how deep the misogyny goes.

    [–]Girlwiththeraventat 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

    Reddit has always hated women.

    [–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

This is the reality. It floors me that women are amongst the biggest supporters of trans ideology, even as they threaten women with assault, rape and murder.

Reddit allows misogyny to continue, unchallenged and unabated.

    Reddit does hate women.

    [–]Cass 20 insightful - 2 fun20 insightful - 1 fun21 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

Hi, I went to GC to read about JKR blocking Stephen King from Twitter because he's a trans supporter and that is how I found out about the banpocalipse. I think it was a political move, they banned the wrongthink subs (the conservative ones) and explicitly said hate speech against whites is allowed. This is why GC was banned (going against the agreed liberal agenda) and porn subs are not.

    [–]KilgirlTrout 27 insightful - 2 fun27 insightful - 1 fun28 insightful - 2 fun -  (6 children)

A lot of the misogynistic subs that are still on reddit go way beyond "porn" -- they specifically involve the dehumanization and/or brutalization of women. You can find lists on twitter if you look for #reddithateswomen.

I guess that's why the mods decided to omit "sex" from the list of protected characteristics and explicitly allow hateful content towards "the majority" (women?)

Checking in from reddit GC. Bummer, mods and everyone were so confident that GC wasn’t going to hit with the hammer, my jaw dropped when I logged on today. Probably shouldn’t have been surprised

      [–]lemmiz 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

If radical feminists are inherently jewish does that mean the trans activists who want to kill them are inherently nazis?

The feminism that wanted to give women equal rights was good. Then it went to shit when the goal became more rights.

      [–][deleted] 10 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 0 fun11 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I, too, deleted my account. I know it won't do anything, but that was the ending I needed to make a new beginning. 6 years for me.

Be prepared for free speech, or almost free speech. It will be a shock to most people that are migrating, because you haven't been in places where people are allowed to say "offensive" things without getting banned. I hope you enjoy your time here. Welcome.

GC adult human female here. Hallelujah.

As a lesbian, I'm following with interest what LGBAlliance are doing, and think it's fascinating how Stonewall tried to drop one of LGBA's founders into trouble with her employer, just for expressing concern for gay rights and women's rights. We live in strange times!

I did lurk there from time to time and it's a shame to see it go. While I did sometimes disagree with the general opinions, it was a place with lively discussion and honesty, not just a circlejerk like most pro-TRA subreddits.

I’m here! (Different name). I’m so glad that we can come together again. The community feels so splintered right now, but I know things will get better. I’m also on spinster but I need to get used to the format and discord is hard to follow because chat moves so fast and I much rather take my time to read posts. Twitter is a hell hole but I’m there as well just so I can follow the GC account. The GC subs that are left....I fear will get the ban hammer soon. 🙁

I was a newbie over there, like made a reddit account just to be part of GC and related subreddits. I’ve been a longtime lurker on the front page and I’ve seen what kind of place reddit can be, and in contrast GC was civil and respectful while I was there. I feel so down, having only just found that space and now it’s gone.

I also worry about others being unable to find it here

Possibly dumb question, since I don’t fully understand gender critical feminism:

How do you all go about defining “woman”?

      [–]Sun_bear 8 insightful - 3 fun8 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 3 fun -  (51 children)

      Woman = adult human female

      [–]kissfan7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (50 children)

But how are you defining female?

      [–]Sun_bear 8 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 1 fun9 insightful - 2 fun -  (32 children)

Female: of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs, distinguished biologically by the production of gametes (ova) which can be fertilized by male gametes.

      [–]kissfan7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (31 children)

But I mean not all women or girls can or want to bear offspring.

      [–]Sun_bear 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (30 children)

      So?

Women: the humans who have ovum

Men: the humans who have sperm

There's nothing about being able to have children or wanting to have children in that definition.

      [–]kissfan7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (29 children)

But not all women produce eggs, right?

      [–][deleted] 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (27 children)

      99.9999% do

      [–]kissfan7 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (26 children)

At least 1.6% of the population is intersex, according to Google at least. So I'd guess that about 1%-2% of non-transgendered people who identify as women have some condition where they can't produce eggs.

      [–]FurfyFurtyFur 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (16 children)

Please keep in mind also that Sun_bear's definition of female is consistent across the animal and plant kingdoms. We don't know what gender Mendel's pea plants identified as, but we do know what sex they were.

I'm not sure about plants, but aren't there animals that are hermaphrodites and other animals that can switch sex?

Hermaphrodites/intersex are usually sterile, having disorders of sexual development. (The birth of one-legged humans ought not change humans being defined as bipedal.) Yes, there are some plants and lower-order animals that can change sex. (Ask a cannabis grower about male plants and hermaphrodites.) Again, it doesn't mean that a state of fixed-sex doesn't exist in higher plants & animals or that changing one's appearance can actually change one's sex.

Hormones of all kinds are 'interpreted' differently by the body depending upon gene encoding, which is different in men vs women. Testosterone is changed in female bodies to estradiol, a form of estrogen. Only excess amounts masculinize a female, and in fact, DHEA is the more masculinizing hormone. Excess amounts of masculinizing hormones have negative metabolic and reproductive side effects - high incidences of type 2 diabetes and PCOS. Meanwhile, hormones do not change a woman's sex, only her appearance.

I remember hearing about a guy who had, like, six kids who turned out to have a uterus.

Also, aren't there some frogs that can change sex? I'm not sure what makes a species higher or lower, but if by higher you mean more complex, a frog is pretty complex compared to hermaphrodite/intersex worms.

The birth of one-legged humans ought not change humans being defined as bipedal.

But nobody is saying you have to have two legs to be human. OP, though, is saying that you have to produce eggs to be a woman.

Outliers are omitted from statistical analysis, as without a trend present it is erraneous to attempt to use them to define the majority population.

A frog is not a mammal. Mammals are a category defined by the relative complexity of their reproductive systems.

of or denoting the sex that can bear offspring or produce eggs

OP didn't say women have to, they said CAN

Perhaps OP should have been more precise, and said that female humans are identified by a cluster of some vague number of a certain set of endogenously-produced primary sex characteristics — including vagina, ovaries, womb, fallopian tubes, and XX chromosomes — all of this is sufficient for femaleness, though no particular characteristic is necessary or essential.

I remember hearing about a guy who had, like, six kids who turned out to have a uterus.

      Again, usually sterile.

      Your 'gotcha' questions are tedious.
