I know we have talked here in the past about "How can we actually make a difference in the world and do something about the damage trans ideology is doing?" One of the things I have heard some people mention is, talking to the people you know about it, because most people just aren't aware of what is going on.
So, I decided to make a leap of faith and talk to one of my few LGB friends about it. I have been reconnecting with her recently (lives across the country) and we are very honest with each other and the topic came up while talking politics, so I was like, Fuck it, I'll give it a shot. And it went really well!! She agreed with me that nonbinary is basically being used as a political statement, particularly in the absence of gender dysphoria, and said that she has been quietly questioning a lot of the stuff she's heard from other "queer community" friends.
One thing that made me really angry, though. I mentioned to her that there is evidence that some women are being pressured to transition because of misogyny (just trying to ease into the topic, you know). She was like, "Oh, I had a bunch of people in college tell me I was trans and that I was actually a guy and need to transition." That blew my mind. I know, I know, we see people saying stuff like that on r/egg_irl all the time. But hearing that that happened, MANY times, to someone I know-- just because she happens to be more masculine-- is SO INFURIATING. What the FUCK.
She told me she questioned whether she might be trans for several years, but she ultimately never tried to transition, fortunately. But I just. The audacity of people, to tell someone, completely unasked-for, that they need to transition, boils my blood. I don't even know what to say.
Anyway. I'm so angry. But also really glad my friend is largely on board! I didn't want to get too into the weeds, y'know, we didn't get into AGP or any of that stuff lol. But I have a lot of hope because she is very tolerant of hearing others' views, and is not easily offended, so I'll probably end up talking with her about it again.
I know it may not seem like a big deal, for some here, to talk to your friends about trans ideology. But, most LGB people my age are wayyyyy deep into the queer kool-aid, and I knew this conversation could've gone really, really poorly. Luckily for me it didn't.
Thanks for reading, screw TRAs, this is doing real and serious damage to kids. UGH.
