All of these labels have valuable uses, but they also have limitations: They suggest we have, or should have, fixed categories of being that perfectly fit a group of people whose needs and interests compete in a zero-sum exchange with those of other groups. I am a cisgender lesbian. Claims to identities like my own — at the juncture of queerness and womanhood — play an important role in the struggle for equality.

There's no "claim" about it. You either are attracted to women (and not men) or you aren't. Being lesbian only "plays an important role in the struggle for equality" because people keep treating us unequally for two things we didn't choose (being female, being homosexual).

On Twitter, for instance, journalist Glenn Greenwald attributed the rise in trans-identified individuals to a purported decrease in lesbian identification.

No shit. Where do you think all those "straight trans men" came from?

As a lesbian researcher of tomboyism trained in queer theory, I find claims like these at once absurd and frightening.

LOL. Can someone translate for me-- what supposed expertise does this person have? That don't sound like no scientific training to me.

Do I get to be a "tomboy researcher" because I was/am one? Or is this a euphemism? Hahaha

Extinction anxieties have long fueled nationalist, fascist and white-supremacist movements and often beget eugenicist agendas.

Jokes aside. It's sickening that this woman likens the mere act of observing that fewer people are reporting as lesbians on surveys to eugenicism-- when the the entire transgender movement itself is pretty damn similar to eugenics...

I'm not even going to bother reading the rest. Fuck that noise. Is this one of those legendary LGB people sucking up to the transgender movement that I've heard people complain about? Or just another "spicy straight" person along for the ride?

edit: typo

You hit the nail on the head, my friend. This desire to alter the meaning of homosexuality and bisexuality is disgusting ‘woke’ homophobia and no one will change my mind about that. They seek to dilute the meaning of same-sex attraction the same way they seek to dilute the meaning of “woman”. If we don’t have the words to describe and identify our oppression, then how can we resist and fight for change? If anyone can “identify” as a lesbian or woman, then you can “identify out”, and your complaints of being oppressed are meaningless. I feel like a lot of these people have overdosed on postmodernism and academic theory to the point that they are completely detached from material reality. Being gay or bisexual isn’t an identity you claim. It it simply is. Trans ideology has completely infected LGB/feminist discussions and are rotting mass of intellectual dishonesty and coercion.

I'm glad you agree. This is also just part of it, but I just don't understand it when people say "lesbian identity" or "gay identity" or "q*eer identity" or whatever the fuck. You might as well talk about a "tall person identity" or whatever. Since when did personality traits get boiled down to mere physical attributes, instead of being about values...?

But it's so crazy because, this is the "gay community" I was first exposed to. The "lesbian identity" and all that bullshit. No one can give me a fuckin straight answer, lol. Sorry this has turned into a rant, I just don't understand. Just seems like "gay identity" is a collection of stereotypes about what it means to be same-sex attracted.

Really? Because I find the idea that tomboys must secretly be men or that straight men can really be lesbians or that woman is a “feeling” to be absurd and beyond frightening.

What's up with the Washington Post??? Lately I've seen blatant propaganda pieces, being promoted as "opinion" pieces. I understand it's the writer's opinion piece & supposedly doesn't represent the views & thoughts of the paper, but The Washington Post is surely just posting these propaganda pieces daily. I've seen quite a few articles from them, that's clearly agenda pushing.

The poll actually indicates a significantly higher percentage of Gen-Z lesbians (1.4 percent) than millennials (0.8 percent) or Gen-Xers (0.7 percent).

Yeah... but how many of these Gen-Z lesbians are FEMALE?

If the exclusively-SSA women/girls are becoming "transmen", and everyone identifying as lesbian is a straight dude with ladyfeelz... tell me how lesbians aren't an endangered species again?
