Modern day book banning/burning by people who also say:

Get on the right side of history!

No thanks. I don't have a crystal ball and neither do you. But I do have the printed equivalent(history book) for seeing the past.

I suppose they'll want to restrict those as well..

These people want to destroy history.

That's why they're trying to topple and remove our history, so we can't stop them from repeating the worst parts of it.

Most of them don't read anything more challenging than Tumblr and /r/lgbt posts anyway.

Librarian here. Libraries should contain something that offends everyone to create a fair a balanced collection. Your feelings don’t get to dictate others’ access to information.

I tried requesting it at my local library since they didn't have a copy but it's been two months and nothing.

Acquisition can sometimes take a while, even more so in COVID times. Be patient and hopefully it won't take too much longer.

Just buy the paperback from Amazon while it's still available

This is why echo chambers are so incredibly dangerous. If you cannot handle other people having different opinions than yours, then you shouldn’t get to be treated like an adult. Unfortunately, these perpetual children have so much power, and this is why western civilisation is collapsing.

I didn't think they read books.

I'm wondering when they'll get around to requesting the banning of anatomy books or any biology books mentioning the two sexes.

I knew someone who was a counselor who had a client who was a high school health teacher. Apparently the kids were losing their shit over diagrams of male/female anatomy being labeled as such.

Only a matter of time

attempts at censorship never come from an honest place. there's always a self-serving agenda behind it, and in every case, you always have to ask who it benefits.

boycotts local library

I won't be spending another red cent on these free books!

If they could actually defend their positions they wouldn't need to try censoring all dissenting opinions.

Nobody seems to understand basic library ethics. They strive to collect all information, regardless of how harmful it seems to some. Content banning and censoring goes against their principles. I've seen books in libraries about alien world orders and harmful diet regimes, and the onus is on people to access what they want, not to limit access for others because of how they feel.

Honestly, I am not really sure many people are educated on what libraries are supposed to be, at least here in the US.

To be fair, I do think the full title of the book ("Irreversible Damage: The Transgender Craze Seducing Our Daughters") is clickbait-ey and was chosen to generate controversy (far more than the content of the book itself ought, which is quite reasonable in tone). I don't disagree with the accuracy of the title, but it seems to me the wording chosen meant it was pretty much a given it would create this kind of outrage due to the title alone.

[–]reluctant_commenter[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I agree. Unfortunately, the author of a book often doesn't get full say over their title; perhaps the publishing house had some influence there? I kind of get why people might have a knee-jerk reaction to it just from the title. (And not even mentioning, young girls are not the only demographic being harmed by the stereotypes and medical malpractice encouraged by the transgender movement.)

They don’t read books anyways 😂
