As a gay man, I could 100% relate to these memes growing up.

Back in the 90s, prior to my family getting dial up internet, the Deka, Warehouse and Farmers mailers would mysteriously go missing every week when I was 11 or 12.

Maybe something to do with the underwear section showing men and boys in skimpy underwear.

Did you ever see the old Abercrombie & Fitch catalogues, the ones where the models were all naked and not actually modeling the clothes?

Undergear and International Male catalogues for me. They sent them in privacy wraps so my parents probably just thought it was another Nintendo Power or gaming magazine that I subscribed to back then.

It was the 80s when I was doing that shit. Newspaper inserts with male underwear ads? Hell yeah....

Also, my older sister, a biology/A&P nerd (now an MD) owned an anatomy text book with color photographs of models in various anatomical poses 😍

The H&M underwear collection with David Beckham, was... eye-opening.

Yup. And being creeped out by the Victoria's Secret window display posters and taking alternate routes around malls just to avoid them.

It's those dead eyes that freak me out too.

My first gay awakening was underwear box models.. I remember being "very intrigued" at the handsome gentleman model in tight black briefs at the age of 5/6.. That has impacted my gay heart so much that I have a thing for attractive men in black briefs.. drives me wild.. I really love pictures of attractive men in skimpy underwear or speedos, sometimes I think those pics are better than nudity...

Imprinting, perhaps. <3

Anyone remember the International Male catalog?

I heard a story of a straight guy defending his having it by saying, "I think it's just for guys who like to take care of their bodies." When a gay guy heard this, he said, "Oh, I always thought it was for closeted gay men."

Yep! Would hide the box of the model in my drawer so I could look at him whenever I wanted to 😆

Ah yes, that time at Grandma’s house when I was 5 and women’s porn with cute guys stripping naked came on the tv. After about 10 minutes of feeling funny I ran to the adults and said “mommy mommy theres naked guys on the tv!” My grandma had the old satellite where you change the channel on one tv and it changes the others lol…

I personally don’t relate to those lesbi memes. I was into models as some sort of weird hobby but not really Victoria’s Secret models. That particular presentation of women is not attractive to me and lingerie/underwear stores and shopping didn’t really arouse anything in me.

That being said, I did find one Victoria’a Secret Angel particularly stunning: Ana Beatriz Barros. She stood out among the rest to me. I tend to prefer women with interesting features. I was also obsessed with Morgane Dubled who wasn’t part of VS campaigns but did walk in some VS shows when I was in high school.

Yep; That shit was distracting af in department stores. And while I should've been interested at both, there's something that made male models of that specialty objectively superior(at least with briefs- boxers suck): They wore less.

Also- jockstraps...jesus

I remember when I first found porn when I was 13 and quickly gravitated to the gay stuff. I assumed I was bi for a few months until I sat down and actually tried focusing on the women or watching some lesbians action. It was only then that my homosexuality was.... obvious, lol. I guess when I was young I didn't even think of the chance I might be gay. Not that I felt any shame for it, it was simply surprising.

This is my earliest gay memory— going to Walmart with my mom and checking out the dudes in the underwear

Knowing it's directed at gay and bi men but damn underwear stuff has never done anything to me - regardless what sex. It never crossed my mind. It was interesting to read the experiences in the comment section.

It's always fascinating to me to hear about people's experiences or lack thereof on "common life experiences" topics :)
