Gay men and dysphoric trans people would get the most violence against them.. in my country it is gay men and trans women (mostly are male attracted not “trans lesbians” and goes through transitioning) that get incarcerated, sent to rehab for 3 years or more by religious polices, even hunted down online. The longest time for gay men can be in jail here for being gay is 20 years with whipping.”
For those who don’t know, Malaysia is far from the only nation where homosexual is punishable with prison time. The majority of nations in Africa and the Middle East still persecute homosexual and transgendered individuals. In Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Chechnya, the punishment is death.
“We try to destigmatise and decriminalized, for a decade the “traditional lgbt” were united, but lately there’s been a schism, nonbinary queer theories are taking over, woke trans nb activists dont want gays and lesbians to march with them, or hold vigil for them.. saying it is transphobic, and they (trans) should do it on their own (they end up not doing). The woke politics is so pervasive that I myself got outcasted because I said homosexuality and 2nd wave feminism is being erased and sidelined by woke western ideas, and im no longer welcomed in lgbtiq activism circle lmao.”
“Mind you, my country is still terrible with lgbt rights, and women’s rights.. the last thing we need right now is idpol nonsense dividing us all apart.. but seems that’s what my comrades are doing lmao.”
As a gay man myself, I’ve seen this attitude many times before here in America. A subsection of people who are ostensibly part of the “outgroup” are fracturing the group/movement as a whole to the point where nothing is getting done because of narcissism and being comically out of all ouch. It’s incredibly self-sabotaging but these kinds of people don’t care. They only care about posturing and moral grandstanding.
In some cases, the more self-centered members don’t actually want anything to change because any changes to the laws that get rid of their (often very real, mind you) victim status effectively means they’d have to start over and get a new personality. They’d rather just complain about their circumstances than get anything done. Obviously this doesn’t apply to all of them and only a fool would think so.
I feel awful for gay people in these countries. Nobody deserves prison or whippings for being gay. And it infuriates me to no end that Western “queer activists” seemingly intentionally sabotage any movement to change things because they’re so wrapped up in themselves. It’s yet another case of Western activists infiltrating a country and abandoning it because the ideas aren’t progressive enough. Many such cases.
There are numerous countries in culturally conservative environments that may have legalised homosexuality, but treat HSTS and homosexuals horribly. See: Honduras, Ecuador, Cameroon, and Russia. Many socially conservative countries treat trans better than homosexual and bisexuals, including places you'd think wouldn't be the case, like Japan. There's other places where being gay is completely fine, but it's illegal only by the books; it's not enforced (ie Kenya and Singapore).
