The one stat I saw about a year ago that said “LGBT identification has gone up X amount” had no change in gays and lesbians, a slight increase in bi, and (if I remember correctly) a tenfold increase in trans people. I only looked into it because I saw an article from a Christian saying “see! I told you the gays would convert your kids!”

Remember when those two gay men were killed by a religious extremist in the UK and the headlines said “two lgbtqia persons were killed”?

It has been like this since some time. If something happens with either gays or lesbians like a famous person coming out, harassment or even murder, it is "LGBTQ person harassed or assaulted", or "so and so celebrity came out as LGBTQIA+ and the world is better again". But! When the same thing happens to trans people, the news articles specifically mention "Trans man/woman harassed or assaulted", or "someone came out as trans man/woman, and there is more cash in the pockets of plastic surgeons!".

You need to go to the pollsters website. They actually do break it down. I agree with you that giving a percentage of LGBTQ+ isn't very meaningful.
