I can see why you have an issue with it. I'm guessing you feel like they see you as 'the lesbian who must like every piece of wlw media' as opposed to 'Jaded, our friend who happens to be a lesbian but doesn't cater her movie and show tastes to exclusively wlw stories'.

I don't mind it personally, although I don't really have that issue with my friends to begin with, even though I'm the only lesbian among my friends. I'll generally watch movies (not shows) with wlw content with my best friend or my mum (both of whom are straight), but mostly because I've heard it's a good quality film, not specifically because it's got lesbians in it. One example would be A Portrait of a Lady on Fire. It's a well made period drama about two women who fall in love directed by a woman which has been critically acclaimed.

I do feel awkward, though, if something is suggested to me only because it has lesbians in it, not because it's a genuinely good movie or show.

I'm having a flashback. After I came out to my mother, a few years later I was visiting and she was watching Grey's Anatomy with my sister, and I, for some reason, decided to join. Apparently, there was a lesbian storyline going on (Arizona? or something like that) and I felt SO UNCOMFORTABLE. I didn't want to be super weird and leave right when they were like kissing, but I think I pretended to go get something from the kitchen and never went back. I still cringe when I think about that moment.

But to your question, I don't watch anything with lesbian content with my straight friends, and I honestly don't really even have enough straight friends to even like sit around and watch movies like that. I assume this a democracy-like situation and you can just say you don't want to watch it and explain why? That seems reasonable to me.

Same. I have no problem watching with other lesbians but I can't watch lesbian movies/shows with straight friends.
