People expect WOMEN to fight for every social issue. What they do to lesbians is exactly what is done to feminists. For example: BLM is for black people, animal’s rights is for animals, but don’t dare you say that feminism is for women because “feminism should be for everyone”. In my opinion this is sexism, people are always expecting women to mother/nurture everyone. I agree though that we should have more racial representation and GNC women on entertainment, but this is a problem of Hollywood as a whole, not of lesbians. It’s not like lesbians run everything and decide keep other minorities out of the show to execute our grand plan of complete world domination, unfortunately lol.

I just want a lesbian movie without boyfriends and husbands.

Or cheating. Or dying.

Those people just want something to bitch about. They complain about diversity then when they get it, they don't support it.

Example: they were all bitching about that Kristen Stewart movie being all white (and it is), but when A New York Christmas Wedding came out...silence.

It's not like people didn't know about that movie. The same forums, threads, and websites that mentioned Happy Go Lucky Swimming in the Sea Seasons, also mentioned A New York Christmas wedding.

Exactly! If you want diversity lift up diverse movies and shows instead of tearing down something else.

A New York Christmas wedding.

Does it have a lesbian/bisexual woman main couple?

Haven’t watched it, google says “ A Yuletide angel shows a bride what could have been if she had followed her secret feelings for her best friend.”

I believe it follows the two women (who I guess are bisexual, they are romantically involved in the movie), but it does follow them with men first in the exposition, not sure how long since I haven’t watched it yet. People are saying it’s not as well produced as other christmas movies, which is true, but it is a step for representation. I think it hasn’t been as well promoted because it was released at the same time as happiest season, which had a bigger budget for production and advertising.

Yep, I loved it! I'm not really into movies, much prefer books but I really liked this movie. Cultural wise, race and ethnicity, even language wise was so relatable.

The main character is bisexual. The movie does a good job showing bisexuality in a good light without telling us or preaching to us. The woman admits to loving her husband but prefers to be with the woman. Most movies the woman is either lost, confused, disgruntled, loses the woman, the guy-no, not her. She was very aware of her sexuality and who she wanted.

This movie is about a woman who discovers what could have been if her best friend hadn't died 20 years prior.

There was also a transman extra. So those people going on and on about diversity, not only ignored a movie with different races and ethnicites, as well as an obvious transman, but a woman who isn't afraid to acknowledge her sexuality. I mean a SJW movie on crack, really.

Still, it was good.

Was it same-sex end game? I just wanna know without too much spoilers. I don't want a movie where the woman ends up with the man.

Haha this reminds me of a website I used years ago where you could search a movie and it told you if the dog in it died so you wouldn’t have to watch it. We need a database like that - “does she choose the man?”

She chooses the woman.

Twitter is an outrage machine, and most of those people are looking for something to be upset about. They just like complaining and harassing people.

If I don't like a piece of media, I'll just not watch it. I don't know why these people don't just not watch things they don't enjoy. You can tell the ethnicity of the main cast right from the start, so it's not like it was up in the air.

I understand being upset at the lack of representation, but why be aggressive at random women online about it? We do not control the casting directors.

Cuz they wanna harass people and feel self-righteous.

IA! Speaking as a non-white lesbian, it drives me crazy that the very same people who will complain about lesbian movies being "too white" will then ignore or not support lesbian movies that star non-white women. It is not our fault that they won't watch anything other than the most popular or most discussed movies of each year, and that they don't seek out more diverse movies.

Besides, just because I'm not white, doesn't mean I can't enjoy any lesbian movie that comes out that happens to be white. The Happiest Season discourse irritated me so much for this reason. First of all, it's a harmless Christmas movie, it never pretended to be a hard hitting social drama. Second of all, people were whining about how they didn't care about a "rich white conservative lesbian" struggling to come out... as if lesbians who are not rich white conservative lesbians can't also relate to the struggle to come out?!

I wish there were more good lesbian movies with nonwhite couples too but I found those tweets irritating. We're just starting to get more decent lesbian representation on television and in cinema. Can we be happy about this?

Maybe they should go out of their way and look for diverse media, if they're so rabid about it. Off the top of my head, I can name a couple of movies about diverse lesbians that may not have come out this year, but are fantastic: Rafiki (2018, Kenya), and Pariah (2011, US). It just takes a little effort, but you can find some real gems if you take the time to look for them. And to be honest, I've barely heard anyone talking about these movies. Rafiki only got a little coverage because they tried to get selected as Kenya's Oscar representation but couldn't due to the country being highly homophobic.
