Wow, this movie straight baited me so hard it honestly shocked me. I did NOT expect it to go full homoerotic in the final act lol. Its funny because throughout the movie I was thinking the cop lady and the sister had more chemistry than the main girl and her cookie cutter male love interest. And come to think of it, they did kinda drop hints. Like when the sister said "Not every woman needs a man to protect her" and the way she was constantly checking out the cop lady. And the kiss at the end! I was not expecting that at all! Sure it was just a little peck, but that's a lot for a mainstream movie from 2002.

Ok, but tbh this movie did drag in the middle, especially with the het romance that literally did not go anywhere. They should've focused more on the cat-and-mouse game between the sisters and the cop lady and her partner imo. And the fight scenes were a little disappointing, especially for a Hong Kong movie. I get Shu Qi probably doesn't know how to do action scenes, but Karen Mok seems to know what she's doing, if only the choreography gave her more to work with.

Even tho it isn't a "good" movie per se, I love what a fun, cheesy early 2000s movie it is. The wannabe matrix gunfights, the cheesy cgi, the way their hair is constantly blowing in the wind even when they're indoors. Its fantastic.

On a side note, if like me you were disappointed Shu Qi didn't get to be gay in this movie, here's a lesbian mv she's in: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a6d-OR2F0hM 😉

Sounds interesting. I think I might check it out because of your description. I like a little straight bait; better than the alternative imo.

If anyone reading this is interested in checking out another "straight bait" movie, there's an Eva Longoria movie (Without Men, I think it's called). I actually don't remember a lot of straight baiting in the actual movie but I know the movie poster shows Eva looking at some guy (I forget who but the romcom movie poster assumption is that those two would be the ones to get together) and the straights were upset in the imdb page because the poster lied to them or whatnot lol.

Its a fun movie to turn your brain off and enjoy the silliness, definitely recommend watching with friends if possible.

That Eva Longoria movie seems interesting! The poster definitely looks straight-baity. But like, the title is 'without men', should've been a dead giveaway lmao

Okay, so I watched it and loved it. I mean, it was terrible but I loved it lol. Like a really cheap version of the early-aughts' Charlie's Angels movie. I was honestly floored what they did to the main character while trying to set her up with that guy. And yeah, there was definitely more chemistry between the cop and the younger sister; she was so jealous but in a cute-not-overdoing it way. (Another terrible but great for cheap fun movie like it is Bitch Slap. It's huge on camp because it's from the guys who made Xena. Lucy Lawless and Renee O'Connor even have cameo appearances :D And there's a lust triangle between the 3 main female characters.)

Also, I re-watched Without Men... and there's some disturbing scenes that probably wouldn't have made it into the movie post-MeToo (and that I'm honestly surprised I forgot all about until I rewatched it). The movie itself is still brainless fun (but with several more bursts of heterosexuality that ultimately go nowhere like in So Close) and the 3 female couples that develop during the movie are still together by the end. And even though it's supposed to take place in Mexico literally everyone is speaking English the entire movie so it's definitely an American(-made) comedy.

Oh yeah, definitely reminds me of Charlie's Angels or DEBS. And what they did to the main girl was pretty bold lol. She really felt like the MAIN character, but in retrospect I guess she was more of a side character? Idk, I've never seen a movie completely switch protagonists like that before.

I'm pretty sure I've seen Bitch Slap before, but it was so long ago I barely remember anything about it lol. And I've yet to see Without Men but it does sound intriguing. I'll give it a watch sometime haha.
