Saw this on ycombinator. Couldn't disagree with it more. I dislike Microsoft as much as the next guy, but arguing GNU shouldn't use Github because it's owned by Microsoft is hysterical nonsense.

If the site does it's job well, then what's the problem? Is Microsoft going to steal GNU's public and free code?

GNU developers want to spend their limited time and resources writing software. Not hosting websites, which is both more tedious, expensive and time consuming than most people realize. When you visit some project's website, and it's not hosted by a company like Github, most people don't realize that's usually being paid for out of the developer's pocket. Not everyone is wants to spend their money like that, especially when a company like Github can utilize economies of scale to do it virtually for free.

I have projects hosted on Github and elsewhere. I had reservations about Microsoft's acquisition of them, but so far I haven't seen any meaingful changes in the site's features or policies.

True That. These mofos try to take control of the open source community politically with money now. But money is just a symbol on which you can project something. They don't even get close to really progressive people, cos progressiveness is true nobility and they clearly show their helplessness and so weakness in trying all their different hammers to unscrew a screw, from whom they can't even know its a screw. I e.g. read politics but i don't participate in it, because why should i waste a lot of energy in a pit full of the same boring small snakes ? Politicians are decades behind the true progress happening, because we build the boxes they then live in. Above that: It is our choice, which one we show whom. But then there are these dumb asses, who succumb to money. They automatically loose speed of progress in widening their focus on might, power or self-sufficiency, so they can't be progressive enough anymore. The real beauty of life are the small things other close people give you freely everyday and why should i give a fuck what happens behind me in a timely sense ? At worst, it bores me. A big tip from me is to compartmentalize all your close people, before you sell them another idea without them even realizing it was you, who played them.

It's better to control and lead your enemies than it is to fight them.
