    What are you wanting it to do? I use Xfce on web servers and on VMs. It does what I need it to: move around files, edit configuration files, browse the internet, and run shell windows.

    I don't think I've ever tried to run something like Open Office or Eclipse on Xfce... now I am curious about how well that would work.

    Open Office and Libre Office are fine under XFCE. Eclipse is for Java weenies who need a bot to do their programming for them.

    I don't use Eclipse every day, but I remember it being useful for Android native development.

      XFCE is super ugly by default. It's not that hard to make it nicer, but I tend to prefer a more minimal approach these days.

      Hello. XFCE is a lovely DE. It has a great feature set while being lightweight. You can give it a retro look, is that your cup of tea? I'm not in GNU/Linux right now, but from the top of my head the options are under system settings -> window manager settings (or maybe window manager tweaks). There you can often select from lots of themes. It will change on the fly so you can quickly find the retro ones. If you don't have many themes, your package manager probably allows you to install more. I can post a screenshot of my theme later.

      What distro are you on?
