Like literally promoting billionaire propaganda on an unrelated sports sub, and anyone who questions this billionaire is literally evil. What a bunch of brainwashing bullshit. How people still trust Bill Gates at this point is beyond me, and I'm saying this as someone who used to be a big fan of Bill Gates

I posed a comment to that effect and immediately got -6 downvotes in literally 1 minute, at 4am in the morning... https://www.reddit.com/r/formula1/comments/hyno0e/when_lewis_hamilton_turns_out_to_be_antivax/fzdxuxl/

Reddit is so filled to the gills with propaganda, it's absolutely insufferable

Propaganda seeping into even hobby-focused subs is insane.

I don't see how people can still use Reddit. I think they've just got Stockholm Syndrome, where Reddit seems like the biggest forum around, and they don't know of any alternatives.

Yeah I've been doing that more and more. The controversial comments are usually the good ones on reddit, but even that is curated.

What was your comment? It was deleted too quickly to have been archived.

Oh it all got deleted? I didn't realize, it was all shadow-deleted apparently.

Questioning Bill Gates isn't "being anti-vax"

    Wtf is this billionaire worship

That was all I said. It's also my most controversial comment of the day so it was probably about +30 and -63 or so

In Chrome open up your comment in an incognito window. It’ll show as removed to other people, even though it’ll still show for you.

I tried talking sense in that thread and people went wild on me.

I responded with links and explanations.

    They didn’t like that

I'm saying this as someone who used to be a big fan of Bill Gates

He could have become the best pancake flipper. So much potential wasted to evil.

The gates astroturfing has been in effect for a while now.

You got billions, paying some basement dwelling dipshit to post on the internet won't deny your budget too much.

    [–]Tovasshi 13 insightful - 2 fun13 insightful - 1 fun14 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Yea, isn't the US developing a 3rd generation vaccine, which is entirely experimental and never been done for a human vaccine before?

I'm not anti- vaccine, but rushing an experimental vaccine during a pandemic seems sketchy.

    [–]magnora7[S] 8 insightful - 4 fun8 insightful - 3 fun9 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Even gates himself said rushing the covid vaccine is risky. They call it "operation warp speed"

I don't visit reddit often but for the past few years every time I have, without fail, I've noticed anti-anti-vaxxer shit on the front pages of /r/all

    [–]magnora7[S] 16 insightful - 3 fun16 insightful - 2 fun17 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

Yeah reddit is obsessed with the anti-anti-vaxxer stuff. And also obsessed with the anti-anti-mask stuff as well. It's unbelievably obnoxious.

It's like a pharma company advertising page at this point, honestly. It's probably filled with pharma shilling groups, and I bet some of them are even hired by the Gates Foundation. Would not surprise me one bit.

I'll bet you it's not even secret. Go look for job postings for big pharma - they'll have positions available for "social media analyst" or "online relations manager" or something like that. Of course they have a presence on reddit. It's one of the top websites in the world.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's coming here too. They compare anti-vax/mask people with flat-earthers. I mean....c'mon now, that's ridiculous.

    [–]hennaojichan 10 insightful - 4 fun10 insightful - 3 fun11 insightful - 4 fun -  (6 children)

If I have to choose one or the other, then I'm anti-vax. I am not getting the Gates/Fauci shot because I don't trust either of them. Also, whatever reddit likes, I don't, most of the time.

    [–]magnora7[S] 11 insightful - 4 fun11 insightful - 3 fun12 insightful - 4 fun -  (4 children)

The whole framing of the argument is nonsense.

Questioning one specific billionaire's new vaccine does not make a person "anti-vax" in general. These terms are being deliberately muddied to confuse any legitimate discussion. I think the whooping cough vaccine and the smallpox vaccine are a good thing. I just question Bill Gates' motives. That does not make a person "anti-vax". That's an abuse of language so absurd it makes me upset.

    [–]StBlops2cel_is_Lord 9 insightful - 2 fun9 insightful - 1 fun10 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Gates admitted in a TV interview he stands to make a 20-fold return on his vaccine investments.

Reddit sez: 'WHAT A GREAT PHILANTHROPIST!'

    [–]everythings 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Reddit thinks he means like helping the earth 20fold.

    [–]IridescentAnaconda 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I agree. Some vaccines are vastly more beneficial than they are detrimental. But there is also a long history of vaccines that turned out to be harmful (either because of the basic biology or else because of manufacturing defects). We need to be able to have nuanced discussions about the tradeoffs for any given proposed vaccine without the heavily-astroturfed accusations of being an "anti-vaxxer".

Also, vaccine mandates and their erosion of rights to autonomy need to be discussed outside the claims of being "anti-science".

    [–]hennaojichan 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I agree, the framing is forcing an all or nothing reaction. As you said, I'm not against some vaccinations although nowadays we do have to be careful. But when Gates, with his duping delight clear for all to see, insists everyone must get this not-yet-developed vaccine for a disease I have not seen any evidence of at all but is called a pandemic, no thanks. My intuition tells me it will be a witch's brew cooked up to react with 5G, that other curse they are ready to switch on.

    [–]zyxzevn 11 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 0 fun12 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

I hate Gates for what he has done to the IT industry and open source.
And I find him incapable of understanding the problems of the medicine industry and its products.

    [–]FormosaOolong 10 insightful - 2 fun10 insightful - 1 fun11 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Yes! How has the american/worldwide public been corralled into believing he is a global health expert? He is not remotely a medical professional, he's just wealthy, which I guess equates to all-powerful in the public hive mind.

    [–]zyxzevn 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

There is also a huge problem with the medicine industry, that many "experts" do not even want to talk about.

    [–]FormosaOolong 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Indeed indeed. The whole thing being profit-driven has taken the "health" out of health care in a big way. It's atrocious. Plus they are going after healthy alternatives, just in case we actually want to get better. Sigh.

    [–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It goes all the way back to Pasteur's last utterance on his death bed: "Béchand was right, the microbe is unimportant. The state of the organism matters much more."

Oh and now there's another thread about the exact same incident with the same tone, because he wasn't socially shamed enough for questioning billionaires yet: https://www.reddit.com/r/formuladank/comments/hyok3z/yes_he_really_did_post_that/

I can mention the damaging effects of alcohol, and the potential risks alcohol poses, but no one will call me anti-alcohol. If I do the same thing about vaccines, suddenly I'm a hardcore anti-vaxxer.

    [–]magnora7[S] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly. People suck at seeing shades of gray over polarized issues, which is half the reason the media polarizes them in the first place.

How is this possible. The same folks that hated the 1% billionaires because they're oppressive and have too much control.... are the same ones championing a billionaire to force vaccinations on the population for a virus that has a 98% survival rate. Incredible.

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That survival rate is now 99.96%, the number keeps going up.

I think vaccines can be good and bad. Yeah bill just wants to make money off them. He should just donate them with his money then I'd be less suspicious.

getting vaccines for kids to go to school or college is already mandated. They don't really mandate vaccines for adults but probably because they figure we all already got them. They don't mandate flu vaccine but this is more of a big deal than it. If they can make your jobs close down in a lockdown I don't see why they won't make you get a vaccine as part of ending the lockdown.

Risk Assessment on a vaccine? Anti-vaxxer.

          2/40? Homophobe.
