Reddit practically got a monopoly on Internet Forums promising free speech, low moderation but once they got all the control they immediately flip their ideals.

I just deleted a throwaway I had because I kept using it every 3-6 months and it is like eating something that is bad for you because it’s still in the fridge, I always leave in disgust. It made me think of why I originally liked Reddit, circa 2012. People discussed how to get around the Beast System, Tor, racialism on select subreddits, etc. It was like an extension of TOTSE. Now, it’s rotted out and the enemy of freedom. It’s like Protective Custody for our prison of a society, the land of snitches, perverts and wimps. Guess call me a keyboard gangster because I don’t interact with PC individuals.

Some leftists may seem to oppose technology, but they will oppose it only so long as they are outsiders and the technological system is controlled by non-leftists. If leftism ever becomes dominant in society, so that the technological system becomes a tool in the hands of leftists, they will enthusiastically use it and promote its growth. In doing this they will be repeating a pattern that leftism has shown again and again in the past. When the Bolsheviks in Russia were outsiders, they vigorously opposed censorship and the secret police, they advocated self-determination for ethnic minorities, and so forth; but as soon as they came into power themselves, they imposed a tighter censorship and created a more ruthless secret police than any that had existed under the tsars, and they oppressed ethnic minorities at least as much as the tsars had done. In the United States, a couple of decades ago when leftists were a minority in our universities, leftist professors were vigorous proponents of academic freedom, but today, in those of our universities where leftists have become dominant, they have shown themselves ready to take away from everyone else's academic freedom. (This is "political correctness.") The same will happen with leftists and technology: They will use it to oppress everyone else if they ever get it under their own control.

You made a brand new account so that you could upvote yourself, Chipit.

Transparent astroturfing.

/u/Chipit is a long-time poster who consistently and regularly posts dissident political content, quite unlike what paid posters are employed to do. He's a great example of what this site needs more of. The group of paid posters that plague this site consider him a threat, which is all you need to know.

[–]ActuallyNot 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That's better. You should use your older alts. It's less obvious that you're astroturfing.

(Of course to actually fool someone you should change the copy a little bit.)

Just letting people know.

Aaron dying, Pao being put in charge for a time, spez taking if after her, and 10% being sold off to the CCP certainly didn't help either.

They'll allow a handful of opposition subs to exist to give the illusion that Reddit hasn't decayed into a leftist circlejerk, but obviously they're not going to keep their hands off a forum where people can show them a way out, to places like here. Honestly, I think the Admins only keep the opposition subs there because they know that if they let AHS have their way and be rid of them, the leftists would immediately begin to turn on each other, as none of them can pass the purity tests on ever more asinine requirements to be considered one of the faithful of their little death cult.

[–]LordoftheFlies 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

Well, that, and I suspect that they're more than a little afraid of just what AHS will let slip where the normies might see and take notice. Can't ever let Bardfinn out of his cage and start pissing everywhere, that'd be a disaster.

[–]LabTech 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Given what AHS and their type say openly, I shudder to consider what thoughts they think they have to keep close to the chest.

[–]LordoftheFlies 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

If even half of the stories about AHS in general, and Bardfinn in particular, are true, then it's a fair bet to say that a lot of the regulars over there should rightly be locked up for their actions. I heard stories about them routinely weaponizing CP against brigading targets as far back as 2016, which wasn't long after I started using Reddit myself. And, IIRC, Kiwi Farms has/had Bardfinn as one of their notable Internet scumbags for quite some time as well.

[–]LabTech 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, sadly, Reddit hasn't truly been a free speech platform in years, probably close to a decade at this point. With Aaron gone, it was really only ever a race to the bottom, and given the carte blanche given to degenerate there, so long as they're leftist degenerates, that really sets the stage for some real crotch rot to set in. The infection's hit the bone long ago, and the corpse is bloating from gangrene; the only thing that keeps people there is the size, because you can't really find the depth of content, the variety of sub-categories, or the number of users that Reddit has. Sadly, we have to use a couple different alternatives to really even reach a measure of the experience.

If Reddit were to formally die, maybe that would disperse to platforms that actually still value free speech, but I suspect that powerful interests such as the CCP and their Western equivalents keep it alive so as to keep their opponents disassembled online.

[–]SoCo 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Reddit's partnership with the Correct the Record campaign in 2014 was the downward spiral I noticed. CTR later revealed in court that they paid millions for social media troll factories, but back then Reddit wasn't worth mentioning in court. They did not mention in court being given full control over mederatorship positions of all the top subreddits, for instance.

[–]LabTech 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Reddit was a big platform, and like any big entity no one factor was responsible, but with each item added to the mix, there was obviously a cumulative effect. There's plenty of people out there who could and probably have made reports and documentaries about it; at this point, I think Reddit survives on inertia alone, and the fact that none of the alternatives are yet big enough to challenge it with any real competition. It's effectively a quasi-monopoly as far as the niche it offers is concerned.

[–]Canbot 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

It was taken over.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Not exactly. spez and kn0thing were both founders.

[–]passionflounder 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

They're focused on engineering a particular "consensus" through censorship and banning while allowing users to accept the false premise that the platform is all about free expression.

That way, the casual user can infer that "everyone" holds a view that conforms to the leftist narrative.

The challenge is maintaining an artificial world view when so much factual data debunks it. That effort requires perpetual work.

They lost their founder and then sold out to Chinese investors. At that point they double down on communism and lgbt.

I can’t believe there is any interaction on Reddit. It must be a very small segment of the population. Most people with any real life sensibilities gets banned from Reddit.

[–]Musky 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Yea. They have a way to push down stuff they don’t want to hear.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Is it though? What's the bot/shill ratio in either place?

[–]passionflounder 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Most people with any real life sensibilities gets banned from Reddit

This is because their reality-based perspectives and grasp of the facts conflicts with the narrative; therefore it is misinformation and/or hate speech.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Right. Like fuck Dylan mulvanie. Reddit is openly racist. Black people twitter is racist. Most if Reddit is open propaganda.

I think they censor more and more URLs of alternatives, so old posts are auto-removed. Look at v8, which is still up: gab, communities.win, rdrama, 8kun, poal, talk lol, watchpeopledie have no URLs in "url" column.

[–][deleted] 4 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 0 fun5 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

That sub is not especially censored. Those posts are being re-created because reddit does or used to archive posts after 6 months.

[–]StalwartJames[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (11 children)

Yes, I checked and found some interesting stuff.

[–]turtlew0rk 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (10 children)

Which ones are good?

[–]StalwartJames[S] 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (9 children)

I haven't checked them all out yet. Gab is pretty good. Steemit is interesting. I liked how Hubski looked. Diaspora was intrigueing. I've made an account with Snapzu and they seem pretty cool.

Fortunately if you don't like any of them the list isn't comprehensive; there are others to check out.

[–]Mr9to5 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I just deleted Gab because I had an opportunity where I was thinking I should maybe quiet down on politics a bit, just in case. I strongly regret it and will get back on there pretty soon. It had it’s trolls but if you know why you’re there and interact with the people you know are going to be similar to you, it’s an awesome social outlet for what many of us are unlikely to get IRL daily life.

[–]turtlew0rk 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (7 children)

I just want a site that has the most comparable amount of users and new content as reddit. This site for instance is fine but seems like its nothing but tumbleweeds at time mixed in with some incels and openly racist users.

Meanwhile on reddit, I am on a 3 day ban for inciting violence by making the comment "kill it with fire" on a picture of a person that had mutilated their face with plastic surgery.

Funny thing about my reddit ban is that they didn't even remove my comment. It is currently still up almost 3 days later. If they were so concerned about my comment calling for violence (which is patently ridiculous.) they have done nothing mitigate the "threat" itself and instead did meaningless 3 day suspension that only I was notified about. The "threat" itself is still up and currently gaining upvotes. If it were an actual threat reddit as company would be even MORE liable than if they had never addressed it at all. The whole thing is absurd.

I agree about about the whole transjenga thing. It is absurd beyond comprehension and is only going to get worse.
