Why are people have so much anger and hatred towards those who don't want to follow pointless and inconvenient rules?

Look at the responses to this thread asking if it is really a law that kayaks must be equipped with lifejackets:

Look at how hateful and angry the responses are. It really pisses them off that someone wants to go kayaking without bringing a retarded life jacket with him. I fucking hate Americans.

Reddit is very authoritarian on nanny state topics like helmet laws and life-jacket laws. Redditors really just don't value freedom, and they love forcing other people to make the same decisions they would make.
