Once the Buddha passed by a village with his numerous disciples. Several people gathered - his opponents - and they began to fervently and angrily insult Buddha. He listened in silence very calmly. And because of this calmness, they somehow felt uneasy. An awkward feeling arose: they insult the person, and he listens to their words like music. There is something wrong here. One of them addressed the Buddha:
- What's the matter? Don't you understand what we're talking about?
“It is with understanding that such a deep silence is possible,” replied the Buddha. “If you had come to me ten years ago, I would have rushed at you. There was no understanding then. I understand now. And because of your stupidity, I cannot punish myself. It is up to you to decide whether to insult me or not, but to become offended or not is my freedom. You cannot impose your insults on me. I simply refuse them; they are not worth it. You can take them for yourself.
And now my students will fuck you off.
