Saidit features you might not know about
submitted 5 years ago * by magnora7[A] from self.SaidIt
Hello! I thought everyone might like to know some useful tips and tricks for getting the most out of saidit.
In the top right, the black and white diagonal square button instantly switches between night mode and day mode, and if you're logged in it will remember your choice forever.
Below that on the right is the live chat box, everyone is welcome to say hello. At the top right of that box you can 'chat in new tab' to make the chat window full screen, as well as displaying additional chat options.
The 'new' tab at the top left of the main page lets you see the newest threads at saidit.net/new
You can go to saidit.net/comments to see the newest comments on the website. We are currently developing a new feature to sort all saidit threads by their newest comment, just like the old forum style. So this way even a thread that is a month old could be active and appear at the top, if it's still being used.
Reddit threads automatically lock after 6 months and can no longer be voted or commented on. Saidit threads never automatically lock, regardless of how old they are.
Saidit has no ads, but is supported entirely by user donations. You can read more at this page
You can see all saidit subs, as well as the amount of user accounts, by going to saidit.net/s. Also new users are auto-subscribed to all existing subs when the account is created because we have an opt-out subscription system, rather than reddit's opt-in system.

Great idea:
"Reddit threads automatically lock after 6 months and can no longer be voted or commented on. Saidit threads never automatically lock, regardless of how old they are."
Thanks!
and... Always a good reminder: How Reddit Was Destroyed

Great post, I hadn't seen the newest version. This is exactly how I remember it going down.

When reddit changed the voting system and people were on their last nerve with this site, a place called Whoaverse (now https://voat.co/) became popular overnight. It is basically a reddit clone and at the time was run by one guy. He was happy about the surge but mentioned it was going to be hard to keep up with, but was committed to making it happen. Guess what happened next? Did you guess: “Thousands of targeted spam attacks to overload and destroy the website”? Then congrats, you now understand how far these fucks are willing to go to keep the herd in their pen. Hijacking a cool brand and using it’s facade to conduct propaganda games is extremely profitable, just ask VICE. Super secret link. And once you have the customer, it costs much less to keep them than to acquire new ones. So we are seeing online guerrilla tactics designed to destroy the competition by any means.

Yup we are protected by cloudflare. We also can ban people by IP address.

Nice one. Also don't hesitate to vote things as funny if they're funny. "Downvote" is removed entirely, voting things as funny increases their score and helps them to rise in sorts like hot and top.

Good point, and if something violates the pyramid of debate, you can 'report' it and the mods of that sub will have a look at it.

Some creative artist should cleverly incorporate a subtle and humorous "Aye!" to the text at the top of the pyramid of debate.
Just kidding.

That's great! Do you know the character's name?
Nope

This is great info. I appreciate the day/night mode button. This feature should be present on every forum based website. Unfortunately, this would let people unwind and sleep; which may affect the corporate bottom line. So it's unlikely to catch on.
Awards all around!

Instead of gray, total black for the ones who have amoled screens. Internet savy sites usually have this feature.

Yo! I'm on the amoed screen too. However, I won't let perfection be the enemy of the good (cred: to Voltaire). This is an upgrade from the status quo; and I'm loving it!

Can I make a shoplifting sub?
[–]Tom_Bombadil 2 insightful - 4 fun2 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 4 fun - 5 years ago (0 children)
You should make a liftshopping sub that is dedicated to the various aspects of purchasing and repairing elevators.

Thanks for this post. It's interesting to see how big of a difference small changes make. I'm looking forward to this place growing.

By the way, in the third bullet point the "saidit.net/new" link takes you to a broken page ("saidit.net/net).
Ah thanks, fixed it.
