Props to you for actually putting your money where your mouth is

I'm enjoying it here so far. Not much content but that just means there's opportunity to create the community you want instead of just consuming.

Cool. I’m a low level Patron too.

Patreon is cancer, to be fair.

[–]NaughtyUnicorn[S] 7 insightful - 3 fun7 insightful - 2 fun8 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

It's the only option that they have for donating besides cryptocurrency. Maybe they'll change it in the future.

subscribestar exists. Patreon might be going of business or may move to a different state. https://saidit.net/s/news/comments/5dml/patreon_faces_new_legal_peril_under_california_law/

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

I doubt california cares if patreon bans guys like Jordan Peterson. Cernovich is cool though.

[–]sproketboy 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

California is a state. I don't know how an inanimate object cares about anything. Whoosh. California has tort laws against interference in business transactions. If the PATRONS want to they can file a complaint and Patron has to pay the court fees. Whoosh 2. Patreon never banned Jordan Peterson. They banned Carl Benjamin. Whoosh 3. Jordan Peterson, Sam Harris and Dave Rubin left Patreon in protest. Whoosh 4.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

lol woosh is right

[–]ThePlague 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

I can't say with certainty, but I doubt moving to another state would get them off the hook with current lawsuits, or even lawsuits over creators banned when they were still incorporated in California. I would guess the fine print of the TOS at that time had some line about subject to the laws of California, or similar. They could change it moving forward, but that wouldn't retroactively change the contracts (and TOS are contracts).

They will have to if Patreon's soyboy CEO notices. Regardless they are going to be buried by lawsuits soon anyway.

Thank you for doing the Lord's work.

I should consider this action, too.

[–]Zednix 7 insightful - 2 fun7 insightful - 1 fun8 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

Haha, holy fuck you paid reddit money. Are you retarded?

[–]Bus 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (1 child)

Yes

[–]Zednix 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

First step to curing it is acknowledging it.

[–]teelo 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Fuck Patreon's new taxes. I have a guy from UK subscribed to mine, paying me $5 a month, and $3 in VAT. What the fuck is that? Thats not even the 20% VAT rate that UK is supposed to have.

[–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

you're a content creator?

[–]joewest1313 5 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 3 fun -  (2 children)

There's a Reddit "premium" account?

Does it come with a gold pass to r/againsthatesubreddits?

Seriously tell me you DID NOT pay money for Reddit.

You make me sad.

[–]teelo 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I didn't but I've had people anonymously gift me platinum a few times so now my profile page gives other people the impression I have paid money to reddit. Sigh.

[–]King_Brutus 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

If you have reddit gold you can't get banned and every post you make gets an immediate 10k upvotes and a personal thank you message from spez

[–]DieCommieBreederScum 4 insightful - 4 fun4 insightful - 3 fun5 insightful - 4 fun -  (1 child)

Reddit is a Stalinist site. Not only did they fucking ban me for standing up for homosexuality, they erased my posts.

[–]Antifa 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

Wait there's a patreon?

[–]NaughtyUnicorn[S] 4 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 1 fun5 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

There's a donate button at the bottom of the page.

[–]joewest1313 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

[–]teelo 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wonder if they'll take my Zimbabwe 100 Million Dollar Bill.

[–]Antifa 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

On mobile. Never used saidit on desktop.

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Legend! Thanks for helping out.

[–]HPLovecraftsCat 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (4 children)

LOL. Who gets a reddit premium account?

[–]EdwardGShitlordEsq 1 insightful - 2 fun1 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 2 fun -  (3 children)

And do we really want that kind of person here?

[–]NaughtyUnicorn[S] 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Let me guess, you came from r/teenagers.

[–]EdwardGShitlordEsq 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I wish, it seems you came straight from /r/funny though.

[–]HPLovecraftsCat 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly

[–]Trajan 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

The future is going to be user-supported. Advertising is no-go for any site not party approved. Even user-supported is tenuous given how the California Cartel is intent on cutting payment services to anybody to the right of Mao.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

advertising is what enabled mass media. for all the complaints about it, they've been funding all our access to this stuff in exchange for just an opportunity to tell us how great they are.

I think we need a new model though, I don't like the advertising.

[–]KennyLogins 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Reddit is garbage.

[–]ArcaAutem 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

Why would you pay for either...

[–]NaughtyUnicorn[S] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

No ads, I like giving people gold, and there was a time that I liked Reddit. It's really not much different than the people who buy stuff in video games. Reddit was my main source of entertainment, and the few bucks a month I spent there didn't exactly break my entertainment budget. I'm donating to Saidit because I want this site to be successful.

[–]ArcaAutem 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

Donating to SaidIt in hopes that it will grow the platform is understandable but, more than likely futile.

The rest just sounds stupid as fuck.

  • Use adblock/ublock
  • Giving money to a company for useless awards that don't do anything because you like what someone else said/did in a post.

[–]NaughtyUnicorn[S] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Giving money to a company for useless awards that don't do anything because you like what someone else said/did in a post.

Why do you care what I do with my money? You going to tell me not to buy Goya too?

[–]ArcaAutem 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I mean, if you want to willingly throw your money into a virtual fireplace, be my guest. I'm just saying it's retarded and there's much better causes that that money could go towards.

[–][deleted] 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

why did you buy reddit premium

[–]lmaonope333 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

the real question is why would you pay for reddit premium

[–]bug-in-recovery 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

...paying for reddit premium..

[–]yishengqingwa666 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

RedditHatesWomen

[–]Doll 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Good on you! Welcome to Saidit. I wouldn't even buy Reddit premium to begin with, but I'm in the useless platinum club that keeps sending me emails.

[–]Sw0rdofDam0cles 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

While I can understand a business owner using reddit advertising to reach its users, why did you spend money supporting reddit?

[–]Brewdabier 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Why pay $50 a year for crap?.
