Why do we have Insightful/funny over Upvote/Downvote

Down voting is poison. It let's extremists in a particular community hide your voice.

This way, you have to be ignored at worse or challenged/debated at best.

You have to be a special kind of snowflake to consider being ignored to be censored... Noone owes you any attention.

I don't think so.

It's just that you now have to make the effort of saying something instead of just virtually slapping someone that said something you don't like.

You can even just reply with "faggot", but you have to write something.

It allows no viewpoint to take over, all views can coexist here without a mainstream one drowning out the other one with downvotes.

Instead everyone can just upvote what they like, and ignore what they don't.

To make it hard to bury opinions that you don’t like. Also, it’s good to be able to sort comments by funniest if you want funny comments, and by insightful if you want insightful comments.

You should check the welcome to SaidIt section of the website, they explain it there. Here is an excerpt I copied for you: "Having two types of upvotes also means that you can sort posts and comments by fun or insightful.
