JasonCarswell regularly bans users in the Chat, breaking Saidit rules

On a daily basis, /u/JasonCarswell - in addition to his usual low POD approaches - bans users in the 'subscribed' and 'all' channels of the Chat. At the start of the 12-hour periods, he sets himself up as Operator and bans users he doesn't like, and throughout the 12 hour period he continues to ban people. This has happened for weeks. I doubt most users care, but this is also a good way to kill part of the discussion on Saidit. It goes against the 'freedom of speech' purpose of Saidit, and it's one of Carswell's many ways to push informative contributers away from Saidit over the past 2 years. He's caused more damage to Saidit than most users. Saidit rules should also apply to the Chat, and the abusive Operators should not be allowed to limit the discussion in the Chat. Carswell also does not contribute anything anyone cares about in the Chat. I propose that the Chat get admins who will follow Saidit rules.

    I have watched Jason work tirelessly for years to make saidit better in countless ways. The group of children, here represented by socks, does nothing good for saidit. They, socks, et al. treat saidit as their private playpen. Socks and the gang have run away many good users who cannot stand to be on the same site with the cringeworthy output of these brats. Jason's only fault is that he has been too patient. I hope to see the obvious offenders banned and soon. I hope to hear nothing more about "free speech" with regard to this group since they have shown no regard for saidit, its quality or reputation.

    As far as I know, you and I've never discussed anything on Saidit. And I see that you seem to visit only on occasion. So your opinion of me and whomever else here is rather suspect, isn't it? Other than potentially lurking at Saidit, and the occasional posts, you've had no interactions with me or many of the users here, and regarding the Chat, you aren't seen in those discussions. So your opinion here, and your interest in banning people, show that you aren't particularly committed to many of the engagements on the site, and in this case, not in the Chat. So I am not sure why you feel that your comments are informative in this context. But don't worry about users that are pushed away from Saidit by Carswell and others. They do leave. That's part of my point.

    False. I am not a friend of Jason's. I disagree with him on a great many things. But he does not do that. What he does is remove obviously disruptive elements. In this way, I have hope to see him turn towards the light and embrace nazism.

    I support Jason in this endeavor because it is what these people do to us (stifle, censor, ban, pilpul). It's fair to dispense a degree of their own medicine. That being said, this isn't personal to "socks" per se, but is how I feel on the dynamic of debate at hand (there is none). Fair's fair. To my knowledge, no one is restricting his free speech. This is the reason for my post. It's odd that I have to explain this. I also don't know why you mention ethnicity. Is Saidit restricting certain ethnicities? I also don't know why you'd mention that anyone is dealing with "what we are". The point is simple: allow free speech in the Chat?

    Two problems:

    You refer here to Jason, who is banning users.

    The paradox is BECAUSE the freedom of speech is allowed for extremists who would however limit the freedom of speech of others. It would not be a paradox if one could limit the freedom of speech of extremists (with the exception of calls to violence &c). More info, here.

    Perhaps for a different discussion. Nothing in this post or thread addresses the 'other', 'they', 'them', 'we', 'us', or CNN. At issue is the Chat, free speech, Saidit engagement, and the prohibition of free speech by JasonCarswell, and thus the continued reduction of activity on Saidit.

    Whatever you say socks/Phoenix whoever you are. I don't think Jason should go that far just because the discussion heats up. But Saidit isn't even completely free speech either way. I mean you can still have tribalistic subs and ban people in exchange for having your sub isolated from the front page. In Jason's case, I can see why he may lose patience, but I think he should keep the repression itself away from the chat.

    The point is that he is the one repressing the discussion in the Chat. He's not keeping repression "away". I mentioned that I've never banned him. This is the essential point of my argument.

    Secondly - only 20 people are active in a handful of subs, and very few people notice the other subs. So the idea that there will be engagement at Saidit because one can make a new sub just doesn't work. The main problem at Saidit is that there is almost no engagement most of the time. Carswell contributed to pushing away people who were relatively sane, and still does so in the Chat.

    3rd - this has nothing to do with tribes, patience, extra subs, absolute free speech for everything, or who I am. It's about improving Saidit engagement.

    I don't think we should enforce the POD in chat, but I do think that only obvious spam (ads, intentionally posting bullshit to clog up that chat that has no relevance, like the time our boy decided to post 99999999999 lines of code and everyone begged him to stop) should be banned. It really wouldn't even be necessary to set restrictions for chat ops if it wasn't for Jason's sad NEET "power" trip.

    This was a moment ago in the Chat, and every day in the Chat (though I was not in the chat, and I've never banned Carswell). What a pathetic POS. /u/beingPoisoned - if you want your chat to work appropriately, fix the op permissions. Otherwise, 5 or 6 of the regular users are gone, while retards ban them for no reason (I’ve not commented in the chat at these times). Up to you. The Chat can help build engagement at Saidit, but it's obviously easy to kill channels. On the one hand - fine - let the patients destroy the asylum. On the other hand, fix the op permission problem, and the Chat will help Saidit develop. Your call.

I was surprised you had nothing to say about this 2 days ago.     Yeah, I have seen him flip out a few times and get into it with BossBrick, I won't say he's never anything to deserve a timeout. His recent bans by Jason have been rather pre-emptive tho. I don't think his behavior is consistently bad enough to justify banning him before he opens his mouth. Weegspeegs I won't stick up for anymore, if people wanna ban him pre-emptively I think it's at least justified.
