Yeah. I woke up at 2:30am and couldn't get back to sleep and removed a bunch. There has been more than usual overnight.

Is it possible to autospam bit.ly links? I don't think normal users use these shorteners.

I'm sure there are some kind of automated systems, but there are people whose job it is to use cut-and-paste.

I added the rule below to news sub.

type: comment
body (includes): ["https://bit.ly"]
author:
    comment_karma: "< 1"
action: remove
action_reason: bit.ly spam

I was going to call you in to this conversation when I got home. Thank you.

You're welcome. Rules have to be separated by exactly three dashes. I added the rule to politics and news. I will monitor to ensure they're working. Let me know if you want any help.

Yeah. I don't speak computer. I know how to click on "remove spam". I'll dig around and see what I can do.

Sorry, by "autospam" I meant remove them with automoderator, I think it works here?

I also noticed that both the Americans bot and Edward returned from a hiatus a couple of days ago.

You're the 2nd person I've heard make a connection between the two. Interesting.

Who else did? I just did a couple of days ago after noticing this. Before I just assumed it was Airbus320 😮 who is behind the Americans bot, because he often posts its comments on his accounts.

What's also weird is how the spammers really slowed down and amped back up again at the same times. And right before their return a bunch of users randomly deleted their accounts. And there was apparently a new influx of users too. All these weird events happening at the same time, it's quite interesting timing.

I think u/AXXA had put some spam measures in place a while ago and it was flagging Edwards accounts as the Americans bot.

[–]Vulptex 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

How would that even work? I know IPs don't really work (and saidit hasn't monitored them for a while now).

[–]Zapped 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

I don't know how that worked. You would have to ask them.

[–]JasonCarswell 3 insightful - 3 fun3 insightful - 2 fun4 insightful - 3 fun -  (0 children)

Also d3rr suggested Edward was behind the Anti-Americans bot, but I haven't verified much less developed that hunch yet.

[–]Drewski 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (2 children)

It's getting bad. I always go through and report all as spam, but I don't know how helpful that is.

[–]Zapped 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Please continue. I get what I am able and u/Vulptex gets what they see. Flagging it helps us a lot.

Yeah I do the same, but I think we need more intervention. I don't expect the 2 active admins to be able to keep up with the spam posts 24/7. More admins? More aggressive bans on the fake business posts? Idk but it seems like we need to try something

It's SEO bullshit - there's no "nofollow" tag for links here, so they are useful for getting better ranking in google/bing, even if nobody will click on them - they just should be reachable from front page for search engine crawlers.

I think he replied to me instead of you.

    [–]neolib 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Yeah, but then I replied to his reply with clarifying what I meant.

Though these new spam posts of "WIN x"/"Get z" type do look like classic spam intended to manipulate people into clicking, not SEO, maybe these fuckers shared saidit in some new filthy place.

    [–]Chipit 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

Why's it such a big issue? I never see them. Once in a while. Attracting spammers mean that the site is worth using. I like that.

What, is it your paid job to monitor every post on the site? The Hong Kong Phooey account get banned or something? I see this is the same account, still constantly posting about fecal topics to poison the site.

    [–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

I prefer their overt attacks to your bullshit attacks claiming to be free speech for raccoons.

    [–][deleted] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (7 children)

Its almost as annoying as when you post the same thing 6 times

I mean yeah I made that many posts about raccoons, but they were different, Jason literally posted the same Corbett Report video link to 6 subs

You mean like a bunch of raccoon posts?

Mine are at least helpful to whoever wants to learn from them.
