You're welcome. I do what I Can. The best thing anyone can do is invite all your friends, family and coworkers here. Spread the word everywhere. Link your saidit user name in all your other social media profiles. Also upvote everything I post. Bookmark this page

Make me the villain of this site. Give me administrative power. I demand it.

What am I a black wizard? I don't have that kind of power.

Is /u/soundsituation actually back? If so: welcome back!

You have been AMAZING since you came back. I swear, every single sub that was flooded, I've seen your name in constantly. I really appreciate you implementing some Automod rules to help bust the spam before it even starts too. THANK YOU SO MUCH!

    Kek. Paid by whom?

    [–][deleted] 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (3 children)

    I get paid in cheese.

    [–]Zapped 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Don't tell me it's cheese from a cheeseburger that's been in the trunk of a car.

That's not fair, I can't even get a platonic reach around.

The only new accounts seem to be spammer accounts.

The site's not growing, not with real users, on the contrary, ... probably due to the spam.

So just block new accounts for a while. Or make it so, by default, one must be allowed [by a mod] to post on a sub, ... or something.

Does anyone really believe that new accounts [all of them fake/bot/spam] make the site grow with real users? Or is it more like many remaining real users will eventually also leave?

What is, at this stage, the point of trying to get new accounts?

It's been a rough few weeks, for sure. I feel like it's one of those endless point-and-click games designed to keep you engaged forever. There are other users who have taken up the cause to help out until this phase dies down.

It's GREAT to see these admins' deleted spam. We could also thank the mods who spend an hour+ per day deleting spam and banning spammers.

It's nice to see the spam reports, though the process mainly requires the moderator to delete spam in batches several times per day, selecting reported and unreported spam.

I have a theory that Indian IIT students on break in June are responsible for the bots and that we should see a decline in bot activity - somewhat - in July.

    The pattern in several subs seems to be that a new account posts 7 - 10 new items in a sub before it's banned or moves post in other subs (eg. in /s/technology, /s/Documentaries, /s/help, /s/comedy, /s/finance, /s/books, /s/environment, /s/bitcoin, /s/Entertainment, /s/Europe, /s/Introductions, /s/TechSec).

If anyone reading this has access to AXXA's /s/antiwar automoderator script, can you share that with me? It would help because it reduces posts from new users who have no comment karma. I'd like to test it in several subs.

The Automoderator script is probably one or both of these (change the number to whatever you want):

    ---
    author:
        comment_karma: "< -50"
    action: filter
    action_reason: "new user"
    ---
    author:
        account_age: "< 1 days"
    action: filter
    action_reason: "new user"
    ---

Also, I made s/AutoModerator for us here on SaidIt a while back. I did minimal set-up so it just has links to Old Reddit pages currently, but I wanted to make sure there was a place for all of us to ask questions about using the bot and get answers for scripting it.

I'm not a coder myself, I pretty much just copy-paste and fumble around to figure things out from that. But I can share anything my prior co-mod figured out with our own sub setup over many years, before she left she saved copies for me and our other mods.

Eventually I do want to replace the Reddit links with SaidIt instead. That's a large undertaking that I haven't set aside the time to do yet though. If there's more interest though, and/or anyone wants to help recreate the Wiki with me, let me know!

Thanks, I appreciate your appreciation, as well as the script:)

You can ban the spammer account, but they create millions of accounts. It's hard to stop every one of them.

    [–]SneakyBishop 0 insightful - 1 fun0 insightful - 0 fun1 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

If a spammer account is banned then it can't come back in two weeks and post again. There are many accounts being made new every day it's true, but many of these accounts are reused. So banning the existing spammer accounts will remove a percentage of the spam and force new accounts to be made. Any sort of barrier to posting garbage should be utilized.

On my personal blocklist (I report a post and then block the account so I don't see anymore of their garbage) I have blocked 1051 accounts. 29 were new today, 48 were new yesterday. Not sure how many of those have been banned, I hope some were.

    Thanks also to

    /u/Drewski and

    /u/Optimus85

Drewski could I get from you a copy of AXXA's /s/antiwar automoderator script, to try out in /s/technology?
