It's the last 10 days of Ramadan when Muslims isolate themselves in the mosque. Spending the last 10 days in prayer, remembrance and fasting. The person stays inside the mosque for 10 days and leaving the mosque without a valid excuse invalidates his itikaf. It's not obligatory to do that but it's sunnah, optional good deed with a lot of reward.

that is an example of an attitude that is purely going against the grain of islam.

you see, even tho i am not born into the muslim religion, i probably understand the core elements of it and better than you do.

may i demonstrate?

one particular story of the prophet that comes to mind is a very well known story of how he used to have a lady that would throw garbage at him.. doesnt everyone know that story? did the prophet strike back at her or scream insults or throw garbage back at her? no, he did not..

in fact, when he passed by her one day and she did not throw garbage at him, he went to see if she is okay?

the prophet of islam lead by example, he showed us to love even those that throw garbage and insults at us.

and yet, airbus tells everyone to ignore me?

oh my, you are good, airbus.

many muslims and many people of other religions, they get a "i am holier than anyone and i am the new sheriff" attitude.

asalamualaikum.

I don't even know who he means by Edward but his inhospitality is not Islamic at all indeed. Apologies on his behalf. Everyone is welcome to learn about Islam.

It's the last 10 days of Ramadan when Muslims isolate themselves in the mosque.

i dont think that is correct.. there are stories of the prophet that he would just go into prayer and continue until his feet would bleed... did he do that only during ramadan? nope.

His feet would swell, I never heard about bleeding. That's just a hadith about how devoted the Prophet (SAW) was, but it is not what itikaf is.

Itikaf is locking yourself into the mosque and devoting yourself for the last 10 days of Ramadan without leaving the mosque unless there is a necessity.

This is because out of those 10 nights is 1 special night which no one knows when, and during that night there is extra benefit in acts of worship. The Prophet told us to look for this day during the last 10 days of Ramadan. Hence why people do itikaf this is a sunnah of the messenger (SAW) but it's not obligatory.
