Insert tab-A into slot-B.

Those dirty, dirty slots.

This popped up in world of warcraft recently. Literally nothing about the character models changed but they renamed it from male/female to type 1/2.

They had that big scandal at Blizzard about management and sexual harassment and then this pops up. Lol...

Are males #1? Seems like doing it that way opens up a whole kettle of fish for accusations of sexism. One of them has to be type one.

We gonna go with type 1 and type a? Lol.

You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Put in the gender option? Help help I'm being repressed the vidja games reinforces the binary.

Remove the option? Or not have a character creator at all? Help help I'm being repressed because I used my female name with this male looking character and it is giving me virtual disphoria. (Real complaint I saw once, hilarious).

Yes male was #1. Thing is that it's still glaringly obvious which models are male or female. One thing about WoW character models which is actually intrinsically "sexist" is that the non-human male characters actually look like non-human but they make all the females look like human females with secondary sex characteristics which you would expect from a traditional human beauty standard. Like they literally have a race of cow people but for some reason the female cows have a skinny frame with human breasts.

The only exception I've noticed are the humans which are presented as sailors. They are all a bit chubby and you can play a chubby female in that case.

This reminded me of EverQuest which was an older MMORPG from about 1999. It was heavily based on D&D and if you played a female dwarf you could have a beard.

Trans Type-B's are Type-B's!

They should just use AFAB and AMAB. It bypasses the (entirely made up) debate and pisses off the genderspecials whilst denying them anything to actually complain about.

Wrong. If you use the AMAB/AFAB terms you're giving in to their delusions that sex is assigned at birth by the evil doctors of the patriarchy.

[–]The_Magnificence 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

But it also forces them to follow that "assignment". They can't play as a trans woman, or a "Type B," they can only select AFAB, implying a natal woman.

That’s how this shit slips in. You make little changes to accommodate and before you know it a man is flashing his penis on live TV and everyone is applauding the “feminine cock”.

[–]FlyingKangaroo 5 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 1 fun6 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Hell no, it’s the tranny newspeak. I’m a woman, not “assigned female”. It’s not like sex is randomly assigned by doctors.

Does it piss off the genderspecials? I don’t think so. They’re the ones using it. Of course, some might be pissed off, but they’re the ones who advocate for such terms (example: describing someone as ‘AFAB nonbinary’ aka attention-seeking girl).

I’m a woman, not “assigned female”.

Get that medieval hate speech out of here smallgut. You are a type b. Your parents were type B's. And you will never be anything more than a type B. You were born a type B, you'll die a type B, and being a B is a beautiful thing, only B's have a brogina. Only B's have Baby Binky Balls. Bee yourself!

Assigned Cop At Birth

Its no use, because of the euphemism treadmill. Any word that is used to exclusively mean female will be appropriated by some trans women for themselves. I have seen people (born male) seriously argue that their penis is female because they are women and their body parts are female no matter what body parts they are. They're delusional of course but people really think this way.

But you forget. These people live to complain and will FIND a reason, right down to "you didn't code me, personally, into the game so you're against nominalgender people like me!". And if you do, then you'll hear "you didn't force people to use me and think I'm special and awesome and make them like me!"

Isn't this done to avoid any possible backlash from using a binary option? A woke game would give you type A-Z. I haven't heard any woke people use type A/B to describe any gender/sex. It seems a way to avoid the problem completely.

Type A male

Type B Female

Type C H20male

Type E Aumale

Type F Agmale

Someone wanna finish it I'm board of of this joke now.

They're trying to skirt the line between keeping the vocal twitter slacktivists happy while not actually cutting shit from the game that would anger the user base. Assumedly they could ignore the issue entirely but since they are always trying to get their profits maximized they probably figure that throwing such a minimal bone to the woke types will get them more praise and attention at low risk.

That article about the Nintendo game recently is a great example. Bunch of people were praising the game for it's queer framing and what not non-binary hubba jubba post gender bologna. Thing was the only difference was that instead of having "Choose your Sex" they wrote "Choose your character" instead or some such and just removed the words boy and girl from the menu, despite there being two obviously gendered options.

Frankly I'm in the "I don't really care" camp with this sort of thing. I find it to be stupid and annoying but it's such a minor issue it won't really influence my purchasing habits one way or another. Which I think is what they are banking on. I do find it to be absolutely hilarious that simply removing the text that says "male and female" is enough to get high praise from the gender specials. They really are more concerned with words than anything else.

I think this will eventually backfire on the companies though. Twitter culture war stuff doesn't equate to sales, a lot of the people who complain the loudest aren't going to be buying this stuff anyway, and that goes for both sides, but while we could argue that all publicity is good publicity, there's a certain acceleration of social media culture wars where people will always complain about something no matter what and it will grow to a point where they'll end up in a "unwinnable" position with the social media opinion. It gets where a game I've never even heard of I find out about through some culture war piece, I wasn't going to buy it before, I'm less likely to buy it after, so it's like anti-marketing in a way. It's the same as if they do culture war stuff I'm inclined to agree with, yeah I think it's funny but it's pandering ain't it? I don't want to play a video game to reinforce my ideology, I just want to play a fun game. Anything that isn't a game first kind of marketing to me suggests that maybe they aren't confident the game will do well on its own merits?

But whether or not you call the male option (male option) or you call it (body type a) is such a minor issue I frankly don't care. It's a video game, doesn't matter. It's just stupid.

A stands for Awesome. B stands for Bitch. Checkmate transphobes.

I saw a character creator a while back that said "male, female, nonbinary"
They could have just said androgynous ffs this shit is ridiculous. Never buying that game now

I mean if it's a video game I frankly don't care. Character creation options are just that. Can't complain about more options being added even if they are fucking stupid.

I will complain about how games these days have such extensive creation options yet, the characters all basically play the same, the DND style character creation sheets have largely gone the way of the dodo. And frankly I'd prefer a game where, instead of having appearance options, I can do dumb shit like give someone 100 agility and Charisma with 0 intelligence.
