Even Bill Maher was bitching about how stupid this and how detrimental it is to kids. Coddling kids and giving them no room for individual growth makes them stupid and weak. I remember running around the neighborhood without adult supervision at 8 and 9. We'd go on bike hikes miles away for the whole day. There were perverts and killers then too, you just didn't have 24 hour media scaring the shit out of everyone. A 14-year old ought to be able to be on their own in an age where phone/text contact is a millisecond away and there are adults nearby who can assist. Certainly doesn't deserve a warrantless search and prosecution. Policing and Justice need a hard re-focus to real crime and not whatever the fuck they're doing now.
