It was no small feat to understand that Ukraine is on the war path like the United States before it.

The first groups that are targeted are usually the dissidents that are criticizing such efforts. Ukraine has banned opposition policies and conscripted their own people to die on the front lines for glorious leader Zelensky. But make no mistake that this was not created by only Zelensky in charge. This process has to be coordinated through multiple institutions to create a blacklist of people that are going against Ukraine.

So who created these incentives and where did it begin?

While there's plenty of discussion about Russiagate, the targets of dissent began more or less with Richard Medhurst by the University of Calgary on these five points:

Implying NATO expansionism legitimizes the Russian invasion

Portraying NATO as an aggressive alliance using Ukraine as a proxy against Russia

Promoting a general mistrust in institutions and elites

Suggesting that Ukraine is a fascist state or has extensive fascist influences

Promoting a specific mistrust of Canada’s Liberal government, and especially of Prime Minister Trudeau

After this, it's Jackson Hinkle who has had an entire government go after him with the help of the one that's supposed to care about him.

Not to ignore Grayzone, but the censorship against them has been relentless. Wikipedia censored them, Paul Mason colluded with the UK government to silence them, and covert intelligence has worked to silence them

The point is the silencing and censoring of a journalistic platform hellbent on doing actual journalism.

The point is also the silencing of dissent for those outside the media institutions. And this shouldn't come as a huge surprise.

The point of the censorship is control of discourse. But as it stands, Youtube is no longer the only social media platform. Neither is Twitch or Facebook. The control of where people can go as shown in the Youtube link above is severely limited. We no longer live in an analog world where people can be canceled in their institution. The more that the platform censors, the more it's creating the conditions for its own demise. As Ukraine decides how to censor an American, more people will wake up to the censorship and look for alternative. No one will forget the censorship campaigns that have been relentless against dissent.

These force a digital migration as people find far better alternatives than what they're used to.
