What are Bucky-type ideas called? It's not futuristic because it's practical, and real today, and in the past. Alt-solutions like Earthships too. That would be a good sub - if there was a good name for it.

If anyone wants to help make a gift economy, I have been trying to make a project to do so at https://anarkikomunismolando.org and /s/anarkikomunismolando for a while now. The core idea of it is that property taxes force people to make money, thereby preventing the creation of a gift economy, and that to make a gift economy, it would be beneficial to have someplace without property taxes for those that want to to live.

I would say the name is a mistake, because as time has gone on, I have been starting to realise that ideological names (Anarkikomunismolando is Esperanto for "Anarcho-Communism Land") don't work very well for describing fairly unique ideas like this, but I already have the domain and many links to it, so oh well.

Redirects are easy.

Alt names: Voluntarystan, Agorismland, Pipedreamland, Toogoodtobetrueville, Utopianada, Utopica, ...

Technically, it's not supposed to be a guaranteed utopia but rather, a way to have less barriers to making things slightly better, hence why I think the name could be changed in the first place. It might even end up with a parallel market economy, at least for a while, as free trade is a must. My preferred method is basically to outcompete payed products with free ones, slowly adding more and more automation to facilitate this. This means that Anarkikomunismolando is closer to a charity than a government; it simply needs slightly different, more libertarian governance than is in existing countries to function properly.

I find the utopia names pretty comical and upvoted both ways, though ^_^

I saw it in a documentary, closer to 20 years ago, a Bucky quote that I've not been able to find since, something along the lines of...

"Waste is just a resource we have not found a use for."

Endless, this quote is top notch, and true. [Saidit Good for you!](

The Bucky Ball (C60), and Fullerenes (by extension) were named in honor of Buckminster for his invention of the geodesic dome.

Carbon nanotubes all belong to the Fullerene family. However, this shit will give you cancer.

IIRC: He also invented a car that went 100 mph in the 30s, as well as, lightning, fire, and earthquake proof homes.

He didn't invent geodesic domes or tensegrity but he did help popularize them. 20 years ago I'd heard about a guy who was pissed at Bucky for stealing his thunder. Recently I was looking for the inventor of tensegrity and discovered there was another guy before Kenneth Snelson was even born. So I wrote it up in that Karlis Johansons article.

      Nope. Buckminster.

      You're funny.

      Read my article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Karlis_Johansons

      And read this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geodesic_dome

Second paragraph, first line in "History": "The first dome that could be called "geodesic" in every respect was designed after World War I by Walther Bauersfeld,"

That second paragraph ends with, "Some 20 years later, R. Buckminster Fuller named the dome "geodesic" from field experiments with artist Kenneth Snelson at Black Mountain College in 1948 and 1949. Although Fuller was not the original inventor, he is credited with the U.S. popularization of the idea for which he received U.S. patent 2,682,235 on 29 June 1954."

Bucky was good at coming up with clever names for things, some would stick and some wouldn't.

"Fuller used a portmanteau of the words dynamic, maximum, and tension to arrive at the term Dymaxion."

The Dymaxion car and Dymaxion house.

The car had 3 wheels, a top speed of 128mph, and 36mpg fuel efficiency. Plus, it looked like an art-deco rocket ship. The house was a modular, pre-fab, energy efficient tensile structure designed for mass production based on war effort aircraft manufacturing.

Fuller was way ahead of his time and a hero of 20th century innovation in service of humanity. Buckminster is also a great middle name.

      Dymaxion politics = hypernormalization. :P

Too bad the Aptera got canned. It would have been the natural evolution of the Dymaxian car... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aptera_Motors
