We are not yet a community. What work needs to be done?

Howdy folks.

Today is a day. Just a small little detail that I want you to know. If you read the title, you know that you just came from the Reddit community and into the Saidit community (Though it should probably be the Seddit community, but I digress) and if you've heard this before, it bears repeating:

We are not yet a community.

We LOOK like a community. We might ACT like a community. We might THINK we're a community. But we aren't.

This is a wake up call that we have a lot of work to do as the world continues to go down with neoliberal capitalism. A lot of us came from a background of a left wing that didn't want us and claimed they were the true left. A lot of us have memories of a right wing that's acting more left wing than the liberals of our time.

And all of us watched as our heroes dropped the ball and we had to pick it up and run with it despite being unprepared to do so.

We fought each other, we bled out, we had our tears, and we patched each other up to move forward. But we are not yet a community.

The one thing I harp on is physical roots. Meet ups. Community is made up of people that work to strengthen each other through thick and thin. And we work to grow our communities and their better habits and hobbies.

For a while, I was trying to find organizations for meet ups and I've really only found one or two worth a damn. Others are too busy focused on getting money for grifting or trying to tell you how ineffective they are. From political organizing as well as protesting, we have a LOT of work that needs doing from the bottom to the top. Saidit is small so we need to help it grow and be good caretakers for the community. Sure, eventually, we should look into a Lemmy but that doesn't mean Saidit becomes Forgetit.

Political organizing is becoming imperative. We can no longer organize on the grounds of left vs right. Throw that away. It's the bottom against the top. Your experience is what you make of it. If you want to share your experience with others and grow on a class basis, we all could use that lesson to organize against those wanting power to harm us all. You see this harm in form of imperial power. Maybe you don't agree that imperialism is the highest form of capitalism. That's fine. Let's talk about that.

If your job isn't paying you enough, that's capitalism.

If your boss is paid more than enough, that's capitalism.

If you're seeing people on the street because we have an economy built on profits, not taking care of people, that's capitalism.

If you're seeing the effects of scarcity in abundance, that's capitalism.

If you see our economy tanking while we have money for war, that's capitalism.

Capitalism is all these aspects. A profit-oriented system which creates an underclass of labor to utilize as profits of labor go to the top. If you want to stop that, you need a community. Now for the time being, I'm looking and seeing very few groups willing to take the task seriously so this isn't a call for Black Lives Matter Inc, Party of Socialism and Liberation, Code Pink, Proud Boys, or any other type of Counter Gang. This is the need to reorganize economy to work for the masses and move us all forward.

If you want to take down Wall Street, change the money flow to them to serve the masses. And that goes to your community. Digital and online is but one aspect of this battle. The real work has to begin and that's with people that are serious in the struggle. If you want to take down the Military Industrial Complex, the work begins at home on the small scale.

And this is the process of WotB becoming The Community of Berners or whatever else we decide. Because the world doesn't need more left and right. It needs a new Way.

WayOfTheBern is not a Bernie Sanders sub but it strives to emulate his WAY of building coalitions with political opponents on those issues where agreement can be found.

For quite a long time this sub on Reddit and now on Saidit is primarily full of GOP misinformation propaganda. Almost everyone here would vote for Trump because you've been tricked into believing GOP lies. Reddit's WotB was originally not hijacked by the GOP misinformation propaganda, but when the corrupt DNC chose Hilary instead of Bernie, this sub was soon hijacked by the GOP propaganda. Many of you won't understand how this misinformation is paid for by the Koch brothers and other wealthy dark money resources. It's possible to look up this dark money, but that's a different discussion. Saidit's /s/debatealtright is similarly confused, but much more obviously in support of the lies about government that got Trump elected. WotB and DaR want alternatives, but much of what's available for them in the news media are criticisms that are funded by the dark money of the .01% and meant to manipulate angry voters so that they won't vote (which helps the GOP, which has a loyal voting base) or who will be tricked into voting for the so-called outsider, like Trump (corrupt AF .01% GOP narcissist). It's the main reason this sub would would never be among default subs at Saidit.

If you want the community to develop:

1) follow the money - know who is paying for the lies you are reading and why they want you to oppose electable candidates in local, regional and national elections

2) be SPECIFIC about what you want done in politics - rather than wanting everything from everyone and assuming all political parties are the same (additional tricks by the GOP on angry voters)

3) quote Bernie, AOC and others, and discuss those issues

4) don't trust criminals (Trump, Putin et al)

5) address real, practical, actionable political issues, rather than just idealistic interests - eg. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Realpolitik (don't let the opposition trick you with idealistic, selfish misinformation)

6) use Saidit to its fullest, as it's known for its political discussions and relative freedom of expression about those issues

7) community will grow when you can identify and develop support for your specific causes

Yes, ban or don't ban, or temp ban. That's what adults do. Also - not sure I deserve a ban - but that's up to the mods.

It doesn't matter in the least if a user complains about your sub, especially if the sub is managed well. I think the turtle tax is for children, and reduces the exchanges at this sub to a low level of insulting discourse.

Read about Saidit and its approaches: Saidit tries to promote free speech where possible. Referring to someone as a traitor is not a major problem. Indeed, you note that I "deserve a lot worse." Now you've violated Saidit rules by dragging down the discussion. But that's OK on Saidit. What's not OK is promoting vioence or posting porn. Saidit is otherwise relatively free speech. WatB should adjust its damn rules to agree with site-wide general Saidit rules.

Put it this way, genius: yes, I and others are likely to complain about users in your sub, regardless of being banned, especially when we're dealing with insane BS on said sub.

It's simple: WatB is most welcome at Saidit, can ban users who don't follow Saidit rules (temp or permanent bans), but know that most users at Saidit are somewhat older than Redidtors and might be literally insane, but generally you cannot be overly sensitive at Saidit or we'll complain that you're acting like children. You want a solution? I have one.

But first consider a quote fro the screen play Faust, "There are none so helplessly enslaved, as those who falsely believe themselves free."

I have a solution that addresses the root-cause issue to almost all of the problems we're suffering under.

This solution will involve personal changes by individuals on massive scale. But you can only change yourself, and lead the way for others.

Well, the big question is what do you want to do?

Personally, I'm trying to be a big diplomat and make bridges to various groups and communities and organize on various levels. One of my entry points has been cultural economy to try to build factories based around arcades and meet ups. Books and discussion also come up. You'd be surprised in how many people I've talked to that are conservative but understand the world through a different lens than their own. I had a talk with a person about OPEC that I learned a LOT of great information while we started talking about his local business and monopoly rents on parts that screwed him over. I've found secret Trump supporters that loved JFK and are voting for RFK over Trump.

Meanwhile, I'm getting into reading Lenin, Trotsky, Stalin, and other lefties and understanding capital better than the default socialist subs on Reddit. And I'm bringing that to the masses out of the movement. But community always comes first and that's my contribution if I can.

  2. overcome inherent forum issues i.e.
