Unfortunately, people are creatures of habit. In the beginning, they saw a convenient way to stay in touch with friends and family, and maintaining those networks in this highly mobile age is a natural desire. Once hooked, the barrier to getting them actually to do this some other way becomes substantial as each individual now loses a portion of the network they have maintained if they try to move it. TPTB hit evil genius with this one for sure.

Hopefully more and more people will slowly switch out of this evil tool. I did it few years ago and I found out I maintain stronger relations with my closest friends. When I was on Facebook we were chatting and we could see everything happening in each others life, so didn't need so much interaction. Nowadays I see that we see each other more often, due to this we have better relations, help each other more often, etc.

Really, only half is needed to wake the fuck up. The problem is there is no other worldwide alternative for the masses, which are too stupid to figure out which app to install and all that. FB invests lots to make it extremely simple.

Seriously how do people make money out of SM?

I'm thinking

1, ads

2, selling your data

3, selling premium services

It's notoriously hard to monetize free SM sites. How he can monetizate every interaction? It's unlikely. More likely that's just a distraction to lead you to the things which really do make money like hidden political campaigns.

In Star Trek, they had somehow managed to transcend the need for currency and corrupt monetary systems.

I wonder if this crass and blatant data collection by Facebook might soon be seen for what it is... A reflection of a broken set of human motivations.

Can we rise above 'token collecting' as a species, and try aiming for something better together?
