I found them new homes. I had to wait until they were old enough, juggle them and other things in my life (being a full time caregiver, physical therapist, Occupational therapist, and a wife to my husband who had a stroke as well as a mom of 3, leaving work, hundreds of calls, interviews. I've been busy...)
The family of cats broke into our floor vents at 2am on May 8th, 2022. This was possible because a tornado touched down within a few miles of our home, the wind forced our skirting on our mobile home to... detach itself from the house. Our options were to either let them roam around inside our floor vents and potentially cause MORE damage over an extended period of time; cut themselves on the metal vent which had a small enough opening they created that just their head would fit; bring them inside.
I got our XL dog crate from the shed and we brought them inside. We cared for them until they were 10 weeks old (aged them at 5 weeks with the help of Google). I called BOTH shelters in my town, no one would take any of the cats. I called two different cities before I asked "Do you have any recommendations on who I should call next?". I found the momma cat, that we called Sky, a home in one shelter and in a SEPARATE city I got all three kittens into a foster where they will transition to a shelter or forever home.
All things considered... I'm kind if glad they were around. I miss them. Especially the male kitten I started to call Loops. It was nice to watch them play, it was great to get them socialized with my dog, adult male cat, and kids... Even though my floor vent is still broken (but sealed)... I really miss them.
But my GOD was that traumatic. Hearing scratching and bumping, biting, in the floor at 2am. Tapping my husband's right foot and thinking he was dead before I remembered "Oh yeah. Stroke." And not SEEING what was in the vent aside from "something furry". I am so glad they came to OUR vent and not the kids though. I was scared but they would have been TERRIFIED.
Sky, Loops (m), Wizard (f), and Spicy(f). I hope all find wonderful forever homes.
