    I regret to admit that I use to be a huge Ken Burns fan. His work on the national park system still holds up. The civil war doc was terrible though. So much selective sourcing and weird narrative crafting.

    Ken Burns is a very famous documentary director, largely on PBS, notable for making well crafted patriotic feel-good documentaries. Dry old topics and stories are made compellingly interesting with well crafted filmmaking - and propaganda spin. Viewers feel like they learn a lot, yet he doesn't dive deep into the dark places, doesn't ask hard questions, doesn't provide answers, and doesn't provide greater contextual understanding.
